Debbie is dear friend of mine, a wonderful, caring nurse who is unable to work because of Breast Cancer and its numerous complications. She has amassed tremendous debt due to medical bills and lack of permanent employment for the pass 6 years. Debbie continues to try even through it all, because she is determined to provide for herself. She attends college between surgeries in an attempt to complete her degree, hoping that it will give her more options to work outside of the hospital if and when she can.
Debbie described her story Below.
" Cancer is a long road, your life as you know it is lost, I have suffered so many setbacks from double mastectomy with Diep flap which then developed cellulitis with a wound vac for months, PE’s, oopherectomy, total hysterectomy multiple revisions, GI bleeds, detached left retina, corneal transplant x2, having a third, glaucoma surgery because my pressure is to high lost my job as a nurse and to be honest I am tired , I have been fighting since 2014, Trying to have faith but I am tired, I know I shouldn’t complain, but I don’t see a way out, I am a fighter but for most life goes on and I am still here, I feel like Debbie downer fits for me, I don’t even like to say anything anymore because it’s just the same old thing, I hope I am able to get through this and keep the last remaining important stuff for me and find an new Ave to try to find my way, cancer is a longer road then you think, and I am truly tired, love you all"
Yesterday 12/28/2021, Debbie had her 12th surgery.
Her pets play an important part in her life & her recovery, and this year she lost her dog of 14 years and 2 other pets.
This year as we celebrate & support nurses, let us remember Debbie. Thank you for any contribution you are able to give and keep her in your prayers. Thank you.
