Please join us in making a difference for people struggling with terminal illness.

We are raising money to benefit the Debbie Kamal Bator Integrative Medicine Memorial Fund at Hartford Hospital.

Funds will be used to support the use of integrative medicine to comfort hospice patients at the Hartford, Avon and Manchester Cancer Centers. We will also sponsor an annual Debbie Kamal Bator Volunteer Appreciation Day.

This fund will also honor the life of a very special person.

Debbie Kamal Bator entered Hartford Hospital on June 6, 2006 for heart valve surgery.  Due to complications, she was placed in a medically induced coma, on a heart/lung machine.  Prospects for her recovery were dim. But with the love of her family, and the heroic efforts of the Hartford Hospital cardiac staff and volunteers, she survived.

Many months of rehabilitation ensued, and Debbie made great progress. But due to her heart damage, she was unable to work and was placed on disability. Her physical activity was greatly curtailed throughout the final years of her life.

Anyone who knew Debbie will tell you that she would never give in to her ailments. She wanted to give back to the Hartford Hospital community in support of people dealing with terminal illness. She continued her Reiki education and became a Reiki Master. She then used these unique skills as a volunteer at the hospice program.

Over the last years of her life, she put in hundreds of hours and worked with dozens of hospice patients and their families. She sat with many people in the final hours of their lives, comforting them and helping them deal with their fears and anxieties.

We lost Debbie on April 28, 2020 at the age of 63. But her spirit continues on as an unbreakable, powerful force for love and kindness. She is survived by her son Ryan Bator, her husband Chet Bator, her sister Suzanne Kamal and her brothers Michael and David Kamal.

We hope you will help us honor Debbie by supporting a cause she loved so much. The family will match every contribution until we meet    our goal.
