Support Deb’s post stroke treatment

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart but also with hope in my hands. This past November, my grandma, Deb Sutherland (Gamms), suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on her brain stem. This unexpected event has left our family devastated, but filled with hope at the miracle in front of us.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing or even meeting my grandma, can tell you she is the true depiction of an amazing woman with the biggest heart. Deb spent over 40 years as a Nurse and recently retired from Greenport Hospital. She dedicated her life to caring for her community and it’s now time for her to be taken care of.

From the moment she had her stroke, the Lord has been by her side. From the start of the stroke in her home to landing via airlift at Stoneybrook was a total of only 48 minutes. We were told she would likely not make it through the night, but the troops rallied and prayed, and as stubborn as she is, she was breathing on her own by day 2, and talking to us by day 3. She has surpassed all medical prognoses and the hospital staff call her their miracle patient. Against the worst of odds, Gamms is proof that miracles do exist.

She is a few days away from being discharged, due to her insurance no longer covering inpatient rehabilitation therapy and treatment. The doctor’s believe that due to her miraculous progress up to this point, any extra time, even a week in the rehab will provide Gamms with the best chance at a full recovery. Each day at the rehabilitation facility is $570, and an extra week of care will cost nearly $4,000.

Her insurance will also not cover any type of
healthcare aide when she returns home…an aide is not just a nicety, it’s a necessity in order to maintain any sort of quality of life.

Even without the additional rehab stay, our family is faced with a minimum expense of over $5,000 a month in order for Gamms to receive the care she’ll need when she returns home.

Every dollar raised will go directly towards covering medical expenses, including hospital bills, rehabilitation costs, and ongoing therapy sessions. Your kindness and generosity will not only ease the financial burden on our family but will provide Deb with the best chance at continuing her recovery.

No donation is too small, and every contribution makes a difference. Whether you can spare a few dollars, share our fundraiser with your friends or just say a prayer, your support means the world to us.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of Gamms journey towards healing. Together, we can rally around this amazing woman and show her just how loved and cherished she truly is.

With love,
Her granddaughter, Sarah
