Deb Dolley Funeral Costs

This is my mom, Deb: mother of four, wife of 26 years, and the sweetest, kindest person I know. She made friends everywhere she went, even when she was out shopping. She crocheted for almost her entire life, and you could always find her working on something: blankets and sweaters for loved ones, and hats and scarves to donate every year for Christmas.

The past year hasn't been kind to her and my family. Last February, she was diagnosed with skin cancer, which we later learned had metastasized to her lungs (May), her brain (December), and in unknown degrees to her liver and bones (this February). She had undergone surgery (melanomia) and chemotherapy (lungs) that had done wonders to help her, but her brain cancer was too aggressive to receive more meaningful treatment than five initial doses of radiation, steroids to reduce swelling, and one session of immunotherapy.

On February 11th, we admitted her to the hospital for the last time. We learned that there wasn't anything else that could be done that wouldn't hurt her more than it would help. They told us that it was just a matter of weeks before she passed away and that we should just try to make her as comfortable as we can. She's currently in a hospice unit close to our home, and we're trying to make arrangements for after her passing. Luckily, the hospice is included in her medical insurance, but we weren't able to qualify for further assistance.

The cremation alone will take $4000, and the funeral will be another $1000. If we reach that amount, any extra funds will be used to put a dent in her medical fees and help us with living expenses as we find a way to go forward from here.
