Deb and Jeff Chasteen - Broke & Almost Unhomed
Donation protected
Deb and Jeff have been renting their home for 14 years. Now the owner is selling the house, and they’ve been given until August 1 to leave. Unfortunately, they've been priced out of the Athens rental market: Athens’ real estate is the 54th most overvalued in the country, at 37.5%. Ouch. Their rent will more than double; add in things like rental deposits, pet fees and moving costs, and it all comes up to a lot of money they just don't have, and they don't have a lot of time to get it.
Because of a past bankruptcy and current income, they’re ineligible for many rental opportunities, and an apartment environment wouldn't work for their abused rescue dog, who tends to bark frantically at passers by. Their rent was a steal, but they, along with hundreds of thousands of others, have been caught in the same historical wave of ridiculous rents and housing insecurity. So we're hoping that some folks in the generous Athens-Area community will be in a position to help out.
The amount they will need, taking into account all expenses, seen and unforeseen, is $5000. They will receive some help from their awesome family, but how so can’t be yet predicted (They are elderly, so at times financial matters slip from their minds). There are people in greater need, and she knows she’s lucky to have family and friends who care, but anything that can be spared to give these very good folks a much-needed leg up would be greatly appreciated.
