This GoFundMe page has been started to support DeAthena Fields and her family through her treatments for 3B Cell Follicular Lymphoma, which is a fast growing form of cancer. DeAthena's family is facing substantial out of pocket costs to stay in hotels near City of Hope while she undergoes treatment over the next few months. Please consider making a donation to help offset her family's costs. THANK YOU!!!
In DeAthena's own words ...
After my last round of chemo in December the scan showed that the chemo wasn't working so we went to the standard 'Watch & Wait' procedure. I went in last month for my 6th month scan and it showed the lymphoma was spreading quickly. The lymph node biopsy showed that it had changed from the B Cell Follicular Lymphoma with is Slow Growing to 3B Cell Follicular Lymphoma which is fast growing. The medical team has advised the best method of treatment at this time is Bone Marrow Transplant.
Since it changed forms, it was advised by the Bone Marrow Transplant team to start treatment immediately beginning with 2 rounds of heavy chemo and then a Bone Marrow Transplant using my own stem cells.
I will check in to Kaiser Woodland Hills Hospital tomorrow (Friday July 8th) and will be admitted for 3 days of chemo and will repeat the process again in 3 weeks.
After that, I will begin the Neupogen shots to increase the stem cells production. This is the part I am least looking forward too! From past history I know how much pain this causes! Makes my bones hurt terribly as well as causes high fevers.
The next step will be the Stem Cell Harvesting which will be done at City of Hope. This will be an Out Patient procedure that will be about 5 hours for 3 to 5 days. They will take blood from the port and remove the stem cells from my blood and return the blood to my body.
A week or so later I will be admitted to City of Hope for the transplant of the clean stem cells. I will remain in the hospital for 2 to 3 weeks while the monitor the stem cell reproduction.
This should be about a 3 month process as long as I respond accordingly!
