Hi everyone,
My name is Veronica Gomez and I am the second oldest of four. On December 13, my dad was admitted into the emergency room of Victor Valley Global Medical Center. He was already experiencing symptoms of COVID and was tested positive for it. Sadly, on the 7th of January, he fought his last breath and died. It has been more than a week and just writing this is so surreal.
He was a hardworking father and at his work is probably where he was exposed to the virus. He provided the basic necessities for us and more. Growing up in a rural village, he was not able to live the life he wanted. However, through his struggles and perseverance he managed to set foot and achieve a simple but better life. When he was barely able to enjoy his life, ironically , like others before him, his life was terminated by the virus. He was a filial son to his mother, always sending money to her because he respected her for all that she did for him growing up. However, she sadly passed away four months before he did. Because she lived so far from us, my siblings and I were not able reconnect with her. My dad always did his best to help those around him and I hope that in our time of need, the community can come to do the same for him.
My dad was the sole provider, working long shifts at his job. My mom recently worked about two days a week as a house cleaner, and I doubt that's going to be able to sustain us. My brother and I are still first generation college students and my little sisters are in high school and middle school. The fact that my dad will not see all of us graduate ever again is so disheartening. He will not be able to share in the joys in our life stages. We were six for thirteen years, now we are five.
We borrowed money to help for the funeral and cemetery expenses. We're only asking for enough to help us with the bills, rent and food expenses. As his death recently occurred, we're still trying to see how much debt my dad had. I know this is unexpected, and we are in a pandemic, but even any amount will be much appreciated. As a saying in Spanish goes, "whatever grows from your heart is welcomed".

Mi nombre es Veronica Gomez y soy la segunda mayor de cuatro. El 13 de diciembre, mi papá fue admitido en la sala de emergencias del Victor Valley Global Medical Center. Ya estaba experimentando síntomas de COVID y dio positivo en la prueba. Lamentablemente, el 7 de enero, luchó hasta su último aliento y murió. Ha pasado más de una semana y escribir esto es tan surrealista.
Era un padre trabajador y probablemente en su trabajo fue donde estuvo expuesto al virus. Él proveyó las necesidades básicas para nosotros y más. Al crecer en un pueblo rural, no pudo vivir la vida que quería. Sin embargo, a través de sus luchas y perseverancia logró a vivir una vida sencilla pero mejor. Cuando apenas pudo disfrutar de su vida, irónicamente, como otros antes que él, su vida fue terminada por el virus. Era un hijo respetoso para su madre, siempre le enviaba dinero porque la respetaba por todo lo que hizo por él mientras que crecia. Sin embargo, ella falleció tristemente cuatro meses antes él. Debido a que vivía tan lejos de nosotros, mis hermanos y yo no pudimos reconectarnos con ella. Mi papá siempre hizo todo lo posible para ayudar a quienes lo puedia y espero que en nuestro momento de necesidad, la comunidad pueda hacer lo mismo por él.
Mi papá era el único proveedor y trabajaba en su trabajo durante turnos largos. Mi mamá trabajó recientemente dos días a la semana como limpiadora de casas, y dudo que eso pueda sostenernos. Mi hermano y yo todavía somos estudiantes universitarios de primera generación y mis hermanas pequeñas están en la escuela secundaria. El hecho de que mi padre no nos vea a todos graduarnos nunca más es tan triste . No podrá compartir las alegrías de nuestras etapas de vida. Eramos seis por trece anos pero ahorita somos cinco.
Pedimos dinero prestado para ayudar con los gastos del funeral y del cementerio. Solo estamos pidiendo lo suficiente para ayudarnos con los billes, renta y los gastos de comida. Como su muerte ocurrió recientemente, todavía estamos tratando de ver cuánta deuda tenía mi papá. Sé que esto es inesperado y estamos en una pandemia, pero cualquier cantidad será muy apreciada.
