Anish and his family are in need of financial assistance...

It is often said that when illness strikes, our savings are wiped out. But what happens when a family with little to no savings faces a major illness? Anish, an attendant at Caritas Hospital, and his wife Dhanya (a housewife), have two children, Ananthu (12) and Arjun (10). They are an ordinary family. On the morning of November 13, 2024, Dhanya collapsed and was admitted to Caritas Hospital, where she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Her condition worsened daily, and she was eventually put on a ventilator. Unsure of how to proceed with the treatment, Anish approached the UNA leadership, requesting the best possible care even if there was only a 1% chance of recovery. The Caritas management agreed to provide credit for the bills, and the healthcare team stood united to save Dhanya, the mother of two children and the beloved wife of our colleague, Anish. With excellent care and the prayers of well-wishers worldwide, Dhanya has been brought back to life. Recently, she was discharged from the hospital and transferred to the care home division of Caritas. Although it will take time for her to regain her strength and walk again, Dhanya, the fighter, is slowly returning to life.

However, the treatment costs have become unmanageable for Anish, who is financially strained. The bill has already exceeded 20 lakhs, and more funds are needed for ongoing treatment. UNA members and units have collectively raised 6.50 lakhs, which has been paid towards the bill. When I visited Kottayam recently, I met with the management directly and discussed the matter. Caritas management showed a very supportive approach, agreeing to provide a discount of 2 lakhs and allowing UNA some time to raise the remaining amount. Representing the management, Father Joy Nithinhel (Joint Director, Caritas Hospital) and Joshi Thomas (General Manager, Caritas Hospital) participated in the cordial discussions.

Dear colleagues, whenever we have stood together, we have been a shelter for numerous families. When illness strikes, the financial stability of many of us is shaken. But if we stand together as one, we can protect these families. On this occasion, I humbly request all of you to contribute whatever you can to support Anish's family in their medical needs.
