Funding Needed For:
--Medical bills for feral cats and kittens (vaccinations, treatment for parasites, and, if they are adoptable, testing for diseases).
--Transportation to and from the ASPCA and the vet. (I use free rides from volunteers whenever possible, but sometimes there are emergencies or volunteers are not available.)
--Food and medicine for my feral cat colony of 7 in my backyard (medicine treats worms, fleas, and mites and makes their lives much better).
--Winter shelters.
Background:
I founded Dean Street Cats in February 2016 to help feral and stray cats in my neighborhood of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Through training I received from Neighborhood Cats, I started doing TNR (trap-neuter-return) of feral cats, improving the lives of cats living outdoors, and preventing more homeless kittens being born. My TNR certification also enables me to get discount vet services for the cats I help through the ASPCA.
Along with the ferals, I inevitably encounter friendly cats on the street who have been abandoned or lost, and I find them good homes. So far, I have trapped and returned 14 cats outoors, placed 10 rescues in forever homes. I am applying for nonprofit status with the IRS and waiting for my determination letter. After receiving official nonprofit status, I will be able to apply for grants.
In the meantime, to keep my rescue efforts going, I'm asking for your help! Some of you have donated already, and some of you might not be able to donate at this time. If you can't donate now, please share this campaign with your network! See BJ get trapped in the video below, almost one year ago!
