My name is Steven Murrow, and I’m raising funds to help my mom, Deanna Lynne McCafferty, recover from a sudden brain bleed and get the specialist care she needs.

Just before Christmas 2025, Mom suddenly became ill in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She was rushed to the local hospital and then airlifted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls for emergency care. Doctors discovered a serious brain hemorrhage (bleeding inside her brain tissue) in the right parietal lobe.

Because she has a mechanical heart valve and takes lifelong blood thinners (warfarin) to prevent clots, the bleed became large, causing swelling and pressure in her brain. She spent time in the ICU and has been working hard in inpatient rehab to regain her strength.

The great news is that repeat scans showed the bleed stabilized — it didn’t grow — and her body is slowly clearing the blood. But full healing will take months, and she needs ongoing expert care from neurologists and cardiologists to safely manage her medications and recovery.

On January 15, 2026, she has an important appointment at Mayo Clinic Arizona (Phoenix/Scottsdale campus) for comprehensive evaluation, new imaging, therapy planning, and guidance on restarting her blood thinners.

This unexpected medical crisis has created significant expenses we weren’t prepared for:

• The emergency airlift and hospital stays

• Travel from South Dakota to Arizona (flights, lodging, transportation)

• Out-of-pocket costs for Mayo specialist visits, scans, physical/occupational therapy, and medications

• Support for daily needs and rehabilitation as she continues healing at home near family

Mom has always been the heart of our family — a loving wife, mom, and grandma who lights up every room. Now we want to ease the financial worry so she can focus completely on getting stronger.
