On Monday, June 15th, my mother-in-law suffered a massive stroke.  She was alone in our home and when we returned to the house my 5 year old daughter found her collapsed on the bathroom floor.  After paramedics rushed her to the emergency room, a neurosurgeon was able to insert a tube in her head to drain fluid and save her life.  The damage however is extensive and we are learning that she was actually much sicker than any of us knew. She has cancer, liver damage due to complications from her hip replacement, depression and to top it off she contracted MRSA (the antibiotic-resistant staph infection) while at the ER.  She was between health insurance and was not scheduled to start receiving Medicare until September.
Anybody who knows Deanna knows she is a kind and beautiful soul who is always there for others.  She gives of herself so much that we don't see the pain and suffering she's going through.  She's a single mother who has worked her whole life and successfully raised two strong men with families of their own.  Deanna recently cared for her mother as she passed to join Deanna's father, two brothers and her younger sister in heaven.  She deserves the best and instead is being left to suffer the indignity associated with  a lack of money.  Because she cannot pay, the hospital is making a business decision to move her from the ICU where she very much needs to remain to a less costly level of care while we sort out her finances.

We appreciate all prayers, positive vibes, well-wishes, and sharing of this story.  Money is tight for everyone but if you can find it in your heart to spare something it would help her so much.  It's heartbreaking when someone suffers alone instead of reaching out for help.
