With a heavy heart, I am reaching out to you for support for my sister, Deanna MacKay-Sinnige, and her family. Deanna is not just a wife and mother to two wonderful daughters, aged 13 and 15, but also a cherished sister, daughter, aunt, and a dedicated teacher who has touched countless lives over her 20-year career.
On September 20, 2020, our world was shattered when Deanna was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cervical Cancer. The cancer had already spread to her bladder and lymph nodes, forming a large, invasive tumor.
These past few years have been a relentless battle for Deanna, her husband Jason, and their girls. Despite the physical pain, emotional turmoil, and financial strain, Deanna has faced every challenge with unwavering courage. She has endured multiple rounds of grueling chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, and countless medical procedures, tests, and scans.
For a brief, hopeful period, Deanna was in remission. But our hopes were dashed when we recently learned that the cancer has returned and spread to her liver, spine, and a rib. This rare and aggressive progression means that Deanna's cancer is no longer curable and will require lifelong treatment and management.
The financial burden of the costs associated with ongoing medical appointments, treatments, and scans is overwhelming. Jason will need to take time off work to support Deanna through her treatments, adding to the financial strain. Deanna has been unable to return to her teaching career since September 2020 due to the severe side effects of her treatments.
We are humbly asking for your support to help cover the costs associated with current and future treatments, including gas, parking, meals, and other unexpected medical expenses.
