On March 3, 2023, my seven-year-old granddaughter found her mother laying on the floor. She had no idea why her mother was not responding. She sat crying and begging her mother to wake up. Her older brother heard her and after realizing his stepmother was nonresponsive, dialed 911. Upon the arrival of the paramedics, they concluded she had a stroke but needed to get her to the hospital ASAP. Dee was transported to the nearest hospital which in turn, after a few diagnostic tests, determined she needed to be transported to Piedmont Medical in downtown Atlanta for immediate surgery. After an array of tests, the diagnosis was confirmed. Dee had a hemorrhagic stroke also called intracerebral hemorrhage.
My daughter-in-law Deandra Smith-Weaver (Dee) is a wife and devoted mother of three beautiful children. She’s a rare combination of deeply caring and fiercely passionate, always willing to do anything to support the people she cares about. Anyone who has met her knows that she is kind, giving and very open-hearted.
While the prognosis is good, Dee has a long way to go in her recovery, which is why I decided to create this GoFundMe account. Your donations to this fundraiser will assist our family with her growing medical and living expenses. We ask that you find it in your heart to please donate any amount as we undergo this long journey of speech and physical rehabilitation.
Charles and Dee are the last ones to ask for financial assistance, but unfortunately, they have no health insurance. Not one rehabilitation center in Atlanta will treat her without insurance, leading us to hire a private therapist until she is approved for Medicaid; a process that could take up to 120 days. Dee can not go one day without rehab, she needs it NOW.
Thank you all for the love and prayers that have carried us through this trying week. Knowing we have many more to come, please do not stop praying. Your donations are deeply appreciated.
