Dean the Wonder Pup
Donation protected

Dean is one of the dogs who has had the odds stacked against him yet he remains happy. We have put together this fund raises to purchase a prosthetic leg for dean from Bionic Pets.
Dean was from a litter of 5 who were bred to sell for the BIG dollars a Malinois puppy can bring. Unfortunately, as often happens, the unexpected occurred. The owner of the dam became ill and could no longer take care of the puppies or any of the other dogs in his possession. A family relative tried to help out but would merely fill up a dish with dog food and some water.
The puppies soon became too much and they wanted them gone that day. We picked up the puppies along with several other dogs to start the process of socialization, vaccination and placement. The puppies were underweight and malnourished with sores to their underside from laying in soiled newspapers. With some time and patience all but one puppy found their way into new homes.
Dean was a special puppy that loved to cuddle and although he was the largest of the puppies he did not realize this and would climb up into your lap to be held. He soon went to spend time at another foster family home for continued socialization and puppy manners and the family fell in love with him. While at their house Dean tripped (due to poor coordination) and broke his carpus along the growth plate. Dean was splinted for several weeks but when the splint was removed he had no movement in his toes, and his foot turned to the right. When running he would trip and was off balance. He went back to the vet who put screws/plates and pins into his leg, as well as a cast, to help with support. Three weeks later the cast was removed and Dean still could not bear weight on his leg and had no use of the foot. After two more weeks the hard decision was made to amputate as he continued to trip and the chances of him re-injuring himself was too great. He was given pain medication and came home. Dean adjusted remarkably well, and in two days he was moving and running and acting as if he had no prior injury.
Unfortunately, he started to have intermittent episodes of vomiting and , thinking it had to do with the pain medication, it was stopped. He appeared to recover and have an increase in his appetite. However, by the next day he no longer wanted to eat or drink water and had little to no energy. It was decided to take him back to the vet the next day. However when Dean woke up he asked to go outside and he had a very large loose bloody stool and was rushed immediately to the vet who did a snap test and diagnosed him with Parvo. The poor puppy had to spend time again at the vet while they tried to save his life from this deadly disease. Thank God for the wonderful staff who treated Dean as their own pet; they took care of him, gave him IVF, medications, and 3 days later he came home. This dog is a fighter and has a lot of love to give.
He is doing well but he is a puppy and continues to play hard and has no idea that all the running is causing stress to his shoulder and elbow.
We have contacted a group who makes prosthetics for dogs, and they are able to make Dean one that will grow with him over the next year, but the problem is the cost: $3100 plus rehab. He will be getting his new prosthetic from Bionicpets.org
We have set up this Go Fund Me account as his adopter just doesn't have the funds to cover the prosthetic. It is our hope that others see the value in this puppy's well being and are willing to donate so that he can lead a fulfilling life. Updated video and progress will be made to his page.
