On Sunday Feb 3, Dean was in a horrific motorcycle accident. After the ambulance checked him out they rushed him to the local hospital in Junction City, where they discovered he had a 3 inch subdural hematoma, 5 broken ribs and a collapsed lung and a broken clavicle. They stabilized him for flight and was flight for life to Topeka Kansas. Upon Dean’s arrival he was rushed into emergency brain surgery to stop the bleeding. The surgery was about an hour and a half long and during the procedure they had to remove a portion of Dean’s skull to access the artery that had been severed and a blood clot the size of the surgeons fist. The surgeon was able to remove the entire blood clot and repair the artery, then stitched the outer layer of Deans brain to the inside layer of his skull. Thankfully, within 12 hours, the bleeding on his brain had stopped and his brain is responding better than anyone could have ever anticipated. Dean was under careful watch in the ICU from Sunday until Wednesday when he was moved to step down in the Spine Center, it’s likely he will be there until Monday or Tuesday. At that point we anticipate him being moved to an in patient rehab and could be there for 6-9 weeks. After that they're hopeful he will do a ton of Physical Therapy and be with the Wounded Warriors on base for up to a year from now. Dean is in an immense amount of pain but improving daily and pushing through to heal. The Neurologist feels that as strong and amazing as Dean is doing we can hope for a 100% recovery.
Wow what a miracle!! Just 6 days ago that Neurologist didn’t think he would survive this accident, let along make a full recovery. We are going to watch Dean come back swinging and stronger and better than ever!!
With your help we really want to support this amazing family in any way we can. Beth is carrying all of this on her shoulders, along with their 3 kids, Chris, Cody and Catilyn. She will be missing work to be able to support and love on her family the way they need her right now. As for the months of healing to come the last thing Dean or Beth need to worry about is money. A lot of people have been asking how they can help and this is one way to help facilitat that! So let’s lift them up in our prayers and raise some money for a great family!
