Dean Deyo's Cancer Fight
Don protégé
Dean's fight began on the 4th of July with a trip to the ER. After some concerning lab results and later a bone marrow biopsy, he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive blood cancer called Myelodysplastic Syndrome with excess blasts, or MDS. Just like that, everything changes. After hearing that dreaded word "cancer," we made plans to go to the Mayo Clinic on Aug 9 to start the fight for his life. The plan was to begin chemotherapy at Mayo with the ultimate goal of a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, this Cancer had other plans; Dean's health declined faster than expected. On July 25th, he was admitted to the hospital, where he has already overcome many obstacles. Upon admission, the doctors told us he wasn't strong enough to start Chemo- and now he has finished day 5! We are unsure how many rounds of Chemo he will need until he is a candidate for a bone marrow transplant. He has quite the fight ahead of him, but he has proven just how strong he is. He will have months of hospital stays ahead of him, so please consider joining me in easing some of the burdens of bills!
