Following a scheduled neck surgery on Wednesday, September 17th 2025, dad (Dean Callis) had several complications. He was supposed to be released the following day, but had severe swelling and difficulty swallowing, elevated blood pressure, heart rate, and low oxygen levels.

On Saturday, Sept 20th, the doctors decided to place him on sedation and a ventilator to make sure his breathing didn’t get impeded from the swelling.

After 9 days on sedation and the ventilator, the swelling was reduced enough to remove the ventilator and go off sedation. However, after a few days coughing caused a hematoma, which required surgery to correct.

He suffered ICU delirium for a while after being off sedation and was able to be off the feeding tube on October 7th.

Dad has now been released from the hospital on October 22nd! All the grandkids are very excited they will get to visit their Papaw more now!
