Deaflympics Bound: Back the Geckos!
Donation protected
The Geckos, Australia’s Deaf Women’s Basketball Team, are making history as they prepare to compete at the Deaflympics in Tokyo this November - our first time back on the world stage in 15 years!
For these inspiring athletes, basketball is more than just a game. It’s a place where deaf and hard-of-hearing women come together to find friendship, strength, and a community that celebrates them for who they are. Representing Australia at the Deaflympics is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but the journey comes with immense financial challenges.
The Geckos train monthly in Melbourne, with the selected squad flying in for intensive weekend training sessions before returning to their home states to continue individual training. Each athlete is currently committing to the program on top of their regular jobs and studies.
To ensure the Geckos can compete at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo, the team needs to raise significant funds. Without this support, our athletes must self-fund the costs of their staff, flights, accommodation, registration fees, uniforms, and other expenses. Whether you’re able to donate, sponsor, or help fundraise, every contribution - no matter the size - will make a direct impact. Your generosity will ease the financial burden on the athletes and empower them to focus on doing what they do best: shining on the global stage.
Together, we can help them represent Australia with pride and inspire a new generation of deaf women to reach for the stars! Every dollar counts—thank you for supporting the Geckos!
