The International Center on Deafness and the Arts (ICODA) is reaching out to you as our faithful supporters to help us in our time of need so that we can continue to provide quality service to so many children.

As you are aware, we are living in very difficult times and everyone's budgets are streched to the maximum! This is particularly true for families of Deaf Children. If we all pull together we can make it possible for the kinds of valuable arts services ICODA provides to continue.
In all candor we are struggling to "keep the lights on." We have unfortunately had to make severe cut backs to our programs. Many of you are aware of the tremendous differences we have made in helping and enriching countless lives of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Hearing Children and their families by teaching these children to believe in themselves and their abilities to achieve a better future.
ICODA's programs continue to be validated by the most recent participation of two of our alumnae who performed in the Tony Nominated "Spring Awakenings" this past year on Broadway! One of those individuals is Marlee Matlin, who is a former “Best Actress” Academy Award Winner, and the second performer is a recent ICODA graduate Lauren Putz who many of you have seen in recent ICODA productions. Lauren is making a major splash in the performing world with her second role on Broadway in the production of "Runaways!"
"The original show featured Bruce Hlibok, a deaf performer who used sign language. This was long before Deaf West Theater’s production of Spring Awakening or Big River, and even before deaf actress Phyllis Frelich’s Tony-winning performance in Children of a Lesser God. Now, the very first thing we see in the new (rearranged) Runaways is an actress named Ren signing a monologue called “You Don’t Understand” (one of the pieces for which Hlibok was given writing credit)." Dr. Scherer and our dedicated staff have managed to keep our doors open through great personal sacrifice, but even these efforts have not been enough. Although ICODA has temporarily lost its 501 (c) (3) non-profit status, which means that your gift currently will not be tax deductible, it remains a C-corporation in good standing. Your gift is needed now more than ever before!
ICODA is working to develop stronger programs that will service a larger population throughout the country for individuals facing all types of learning challenges. These programs will include individualized state-of-the-art Neuroscience strategies in conjunction with the arts.
Since we have been unable to host an annual fundraising event or a Golf Outing this year due to staff and financial cutbacks, can you make a one time or monthly $25, $50, $100 or more gift? While your gift is currently not tax deductible, it will help us to survive, restructure, and launch this exciting new phase of our organization. Another way you could help us is by spreading the word to other friends and relatives by sharing this link.
Thank you in advance for being a loyal friend to the children we serve, and for supporting the development of future programs.
