deaf woman was scammed

Gwendolyn Williams is a deaf woman who lives with her autistic daughter.  She moved to the Atlanta area about a year ago and has been struggling to find a job and a place to live.  She resorted to living in long term stays at motels for the past year. Recently, with the help of a social worker, she found a job and a house to rent.

Gwendolyn found an ad on Craigslist for a house in Lawrenceville within her price range.  After contacting the person who posted the ad, she arranged to visit the house and then filled out an application to rent it. The person who presented himself as the landlord gave her a code that allowed her to enter the home.  She liked the house so she filled out an application immediately and sent a deposit of $895. She sent another payment of $200 toward the first month’s rent leaving a balance due of $700 which she promised to pay next week.

Altogether she was scammed of $1095 by the purported landlord.  She also paid deposits for utilities, cable and for a Uhaul rental leaving her totally broke. She moved everything into her new house earlier today and then went to work at her new job.  When she arrived home, she found a notice on her front door posted by the real landlord.  The sign warned that someone had been trying to rent the house illegally.  It also said that they would be entering the home.  The landlord called the police who told Gwendolyn that she should vacate the property immediately.  The problem is that Gwendolyn has nowhere to go and has no money.  Please help if you can and may God bless you and your loved ones.
