Hearing Impaired Ambassadors

Honoring Ashley and Ethan our 6th grade deaf and hard of hearing ambassadors from Stockton, CA.

Ashley and Ethan both intrepret the world through the use of hearing aids and cochlear implants.  They created a video to help general education teachers understand the needs of hearing impaired students.  Due to the importance and quality of this video, these two amazing 6th grade students from Mable Barron Elementary school have been recognized by the California Speech and Hearing Association as Student Consumers of the Year.  They will be honored in March at the CSHA convention in Pasadena.  Help us honor and send Ethan, Ashley and their families to Pasedena to accept this prestegious award.

We want to honor Ashley and Ethan for being ambassadors who are paving the way for all students to advocate for their needs in our public schools.  Their message to teachers is that cochlear implants and hearing aids will not correct hearing like glasses correct vision.  There is no 20/20 hearing.  Deaf and hard of hearing students need to practice speech reading and communication strategies to access basic core curriculum.  This is exhausting and it is very important that every educator teaching a child with hearing loss understands this challenge.   Ashley and Ethan are redefining and demonstrating a new meaning of self-advocacy through the use of technology.  These ambassadors want to ensure that all students with hearing impairments experience success throughout their academic careers. Their goal is  that this video will provide strategies for the general education teachers to increase opportunities for successful inclusion in the general education process.

Let's honor and send Ashley, Ethan, and their families to Pasedena to accept this prestegious award presented by CSHA.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated support of these amazing students.
