Deaf & Disabled - Urgent Help to Fix My Wheelchair
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Merrick. I’m 22, Deaf and disabled, living with chronic illnesses including POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), Ménière’s disease, and other conditions that affect my ability to walk, balance, and function safely. My wheelchair is not just mobility - it’s independence, safety, and survival.
Right now, I urgently need to replace my wheelchair’s footplate assembly. The current footplates are barely holding together - just shifting or touching them too much can cause them to break off completely. This puts me at real risk of injury or falling, and makes it harder to move, transfer, or stay safe on my own.
The exact part I need here:
Unfortunately, even though this part isn’t outrageously expensive, I haven’t been able to work enough to afford it due to disability and ongoing medical costs. I also struggle to afford other accessibility tools like power assist devices, regular maintenance, and specialist visits not covered by insurance
This part is not covered by insurance, and I simply can’t afford it on my own while managing disability and medical expenses.
Your donation will help cover the $315 cost of the wheelchair footplate assembly, which is not covered by insurance. It will also help with shipping, taxes, and the small processing fees that GoFundMe applies to each donation.
If anything is raised beyond the exact cost, it will go toward related accessibility and medical needs - like assistive equipment, mobility tools, or medical debt relief. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps directly improve my safety, comfort and independence.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read, share, or donate. Your support means the world to me and makes a real, direct impact on my daily life. I truly appreciate you.
