Diverse Learners Pandemic Pod Chicago
Donation protected
Greetings,
My name is Danielle Giles. My son Zion is deaf and will be starting the 3rd grade this year. I struggled all summer trying to come up with a education plan that would work for him, if we had to continue with remote learning in the fall. Being deaf, remote learning was not successful, because he benefits best from in person instruction.
Unfortunately, we are still in the midst of this pandemic. The local school board is struggling to create a specific plan that would help the DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) program. The parents of students with disabilities are very concerned with the educational progress of their children as it relates to the remote learning process. We definitely do not want the children with disabilities to be left behind this upcoming school year. https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2020/08/05/e-learning-cps-special-education-diverse-learners/
This summer I decided to explore the option of an education pod for the 2nd and 3rd graders in my sons classroom.
What is a Pod?
A education pod is a small group of students learning in a controlled atmosphere. The host teacher is following the virtual classroom instructions provided by the home schools. This also included safety, supervision, technical support, enrichment activities, specialized tutoring and socialization skills for the students as they complete their work.

I have identified a energetic certified DDH Special Education Teacher who is very excited about the prospect of teaching this diverse group of children. In addition, I have a benefactor who has committed to provide a safe space in a Chicago West Loop location for daily classroom instructions.
The majority of students in the DHH program are from low income families and cannot afford the cost of a private (DHH teacher).
This is how you can help.
Funds are needed immediately to pay the salary of the one (Special Education) teacher, one classroom assistant and classroom supplies this quarter. We can not make this endeavor a reality without your help.

Your contributions will help these special needs children maintain their grade level and strive to achieve. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. No donation is to small. Thank You!
