Deacon Maxwell Johnson, has been battling cancer for the past _3__ years. Unfortunately, the cancer has progressed despite surgeries and medical treatment that he underwent, the latter of which has depleted his medical insurance benefits.

Deacon Johnson is a devoted deacon at Our Lady’s of the Holy Souls for the past 20 years. After losing his wife to cancer in 2007, he essentially became ‘married to the church’ and has remained a faithful and beloved minister. As a deacon, he has led several community initiatives and provided assistance to the less fortunate. He regularly visited the sick and shut-in to serve communion and traveled to the family islands to preach the gospel when required to do so.

He has served his country as an employee of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force for 34 years where he provided both time and talent as a radio technician.

We recently learned that the cancer spread and caused several tumors to develop throughout his body which has severely affected his mobility. Despite our efforts to raise funds through cookouts, it is still not near enough to cover the cost needed to complete the chemo treatment that he has started but could not complete after the insurance medical benefit had been exhausted.

Five more rounds of chemotherapy treatment are needed and the cost to complete each round is $12,675.00. Funds are also needed to continue doctor visits, consultations, and other medical treatment. In addition to these, we are required to settle the outstanding bill incurred at the University of Miami in the amount of $484,381.00 for services rendered that could not be covered by insurance.
