On Saturday 6th September, at 18:25, our big brother Danny had a head on car collision which resulted in very serious injuries. Danny was immediately transported to the Oxford trauma centre by air ambulance, where the amazing medical team fought to save his life. We were contacted by the police and prepared for the worse, and were advised to get to the hospital as soon as possible so that we could say goodbye.
By some miracle, the team of surgeons were able to stabilise Danny enough that they could attempt surgery on the major haemorrhaging in his tummy. They repaired the tare in his aorta that was causing a major bleed, as well as the major bleeds coming from his spleen and liver. Danny survived the surgery, but was in a coma. Every day for a week we watched him fight to survive, we spent many hours by his bedside in critical care, holding his hand, willing for him to fight, and praying hard that we would see another miracle happen.
Sadly it was not meant to be, and on Monday the 15th September, Danny started to haemorrhage again. Emergency surgery was performed, and his spleen was removed, but his liver was also failing. Within a couple of hours he declined rapidly, and he was taken back to theatre, but all of his organs had now shut down and were dying.
we were called to gather at his bedside and say our goodbyes. Later that evening we switched off his life support and watched him take his last breath, and watched his heart beat for the very last time.
Our larger than life brother, was just 48 years old, and he has left behind a partner, 4 year old daughter, mum, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and many friends. Now we all have to learn to navigate our way through this world, without our Danny in it, but how do we even start to do that?!
All of us remaining siblings, Marie, Ryan, Carmen and Josh, are raising funds to help us give our big brother the send off he deserves. If you can help in any way, you will be helping us to honour the memory of our big brother, who most certainly made a dent in this world, by being the most beautifully creative chef that ever was!
Thank you so much in advance
