My name is Ariel, also known as Archie's mommy. A little over a year ago, I was looking to foster a dog who normally gets overlooked for various reasons, such as medical issues, age, breed, etc. When I first met Archie, he was a bit shy and always stayed in the corner. I wanted to make sure I gave him his space but also let him know he was in a safe and loving environment. After about a week, he was catching on to his/our new schedule and we became inseparable. I completely fell in love with him. I knew I had to adopt him! Archie and I became each other's family. We live together, just us, in a one-bedroom apartment. He is my best friend and my baby boy. Archie has brought so much love and happiness into my life.
Archie had a hard life prior to his adoption. He was found in a school parking lot in Houston, unable to use his back legs. APA (Austin Pets Alive) thinks he was probably hit by a car. He suffered a broken pelvis and neurological issues. Archie has implants in his left hip that are meant to stay in for life. During his first month with me, one of his implants started migrating and he had to undergo surgery again to get it removed. Archie has been such a wonderful patient for his medical team from APA to Central Texas Veterinary Surgery Emergency Hospital.
Fast forward to one month ago, Archie was unable to stand on his back legs and walk. I rushed him to Central Texas Veterinary Surgery Emergency Hospital where he underwent Spinal MRI +/- CSF analysis, blood work, thoracic radiographs, and more testing. He was diagnosed with meningoencephalomyelitis (autoimmune). He is now undergoing Cytosar treatment, he will need these treatments every 4 weeks along with daily medications.
Archie is a sweet boy who loves attention. He is always waiting at the window for me to come home from work, once I see him I wave to him and he runs to the door. On our daily walks, he has a little swag walk that is just too adorable. Even though he is feeling crumby, he still tries to give me a wag and give me kisses. He is such a good boy at the vet/hospital and the staff loves and adores him.
Archie has been in and out of the hospital for about a week. He will need monthly treatments moving forward. On one income working two jobs, I simply do not have that kind of money. Archie is my everything and I will do anything for him. Anything helps and is appreciated. Thank you so much for taking the time to read Archie's story.
