#thebestdogever, Konan Taylor Townsend was diagnosed on April 6th with Hemangiosarcoma.

Hemangiosarcoma is a rapidly growing, highly invasive variety of cancer. It is a sarcoma arising from the lining of blood vessels; that is, blood-filled channels and spaces are commonly observed microscopically. A frequent cause of death is the rupturing of this tumor, causing the patient to rapidly bleed to death.

As you can imagine we are utterly devastated. Konan has been a huge part of our family since he was 10 weeks old. He has helped raise our 3 daughters and has touched the lives of every person he has met. He has acquired many nick names over the years, some of them being the best dog ever, K dogg, Konan the barbarian, Hottie and Koney. We can not imagine life without this very special boy.

It all started a week ago when Konan wasn't acting like himself and was kind of lame in his back end. We chalked it up to him having an arthritic flare up and decided a couple days of rest were in order along with his normal arthritis meds. That Thursday night we noticed severe swelling in his hind left leg. Figuring he hurt his leg somehow we knew a trip to our vet was in order the next day. On Friday April 1st our vet sent Konan home on a large dose of antibiotics thinking there must be some sort of infection going on with all the swelling they were seeing. We had instructions to call Monday if the swelling did not decrease. Monday came and no change. We were back to the vet a few hours later. During the extensive exam that included bloodwork and xrays our vet noticed Konan had bruising on the lower part of his abdomen. At this time our vet referred us to the internal medicine department at Port City Hospital. We had an appointment for Thursday as it was the soonest they could get us in.

Wednesday April 6th his leg swelled even more and now the bruising was spreading all over his abdomen. After a brief phone consult with our vet it was decided that we would bring Konan in to the emergency department at Port City. Right away they did more blood work and did ultrasounds on his abdomen and leg. That is when we learned the devastating news that Konan had cancer in his thigh. Our only options at this time were to amputate his leg or basically make him comfortable and have to put him to sleep in a few weeks.

Today, April 7th Konan goes in for a surgery consult. His medical bills at this time have reached $1350. We are not sure what is to come and have no pet insurance for him.

We are devastated. Konan is the son that we never had, a brother to his dog siblings and our daughters, a gentle giant to anyone he met and a bestfriend to me. Asking for financial help is very hard for us but we just don't know what else to do. Konan is not ready to leave this earth and we are not willing to let him suffer. I ask that you share his story and donate anything, every $1 will help. I will update this page after his surgery consult today. Please keep Konan in your thoughts and send lots of good vibes to him. Thank you so much for everyones support at this time.
