College is Really Expensive, Please Help Me

Donation protected
Dear everyone,

First of all, I would like to take the time to say thank you. It means so much to me that you are even taking the time to read this. If you are considering donating, THANK YOU. I cannot thank you enough for your support. If you are unable to donate, THANK YOU for even taking the time to view this. I am so thankful and appreciative of your help.

My name is Kendrah and I have recently been accepted to The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, aka the college of my dreams. It sounds cliché, but it is the undeniable truth. I hate that I have to even ask for your help as a means of funding my education, especially in the extremely hard times of COVID-19, but, sadly, that is the reality of the world we live in. I have been awarded some financial aid and a scholarship that cover half the cost of tuition, however I am still unable to pay for the rest of it.

I am from a low-income family with seven people under our roof. Although money is an issue, I never want it to stand in the way of experiencing the world. For the past year I have worked three jobs in the hopes of saving more for my education. In that time, I have understood what it’s like to follow your heart and nothing in the world compares to the joy you feel when you do. Never in my life have I felt so strongly about where I am meant to be. I know that attending this school will mean working the hardest I ever have, I know it will mean not having a stable life-style, I know it will mean struggling for a long time. But I also know it will mean I will be doing what I love to do; which is more important to me than financial comfort.

I am an AB student with a 3.8 GPA. Though I have met very many health complications through my time in high school and missed so many days because of them, I have maintained a high grade point average while also performing in after school productions, involving myself in clubs, and working different jobs whenever I could. If I am able to attend school in the fall, that will mean I will be a first generation student. My education is extremely important to me (if you couldn’t tell that by me starting a go-fund me campaign so I can attend.) However, due to my lack of income, it makes it extremely difficult to obtain the type of education I want for myself, especially when that education involves the arts. I believe a person's worth is not based on the size of their pockets. I believe with hard work anything is possible.

Although many low-income students get accepted into colleges nearly 40% of them do not attend because their families cannot afford it. Our education system is extremely flawed, a surprise, I know. In a perfect world students would be able to attend their college of choice at little to no cost to them. In a perfect world students would not have to make a Go-Fund me as a way to hopefully raise enough money for their education. But this is not a perfect world, if you have the means to donate, just know you would be helping fund the future of someone who wants to make a difference, someone who will strive to make education more feasible. I want to help pave the path for those who are afraid of a career in the arts because of money. I want to bring creativity back into the minds of future generations and let them know that their dreams can be realities if they just keep believing in them.

Again, I thank you so much for your support. If you are able to donate, thank you, thank you, thank you. If you are unable to but have taken the time to read this, thank you, thank you, thank you.
