D&D Brewery Employee Emergency Relief Fund
Donation protected
Short version: your donation will go 100% to supporting D&D's team and will be matched 100% by me. You'll also receive a gift certificate for 100% of your donation that will never expire. We need your help.
The longer version: What's going on?
Honduras has been in lockdown due to COVID-19 since March 16th. Unlike many countries around the world, in Honduras there is no unemployment insurance and the Honduran government has yet to roll out any effective aid programs for small tourism businesses like D&D.
For the past seven weeks, I have continued to pay the 12 amazing staff members of D&D their regular salaries despite the fact that we've been shut down. Financially, I cannot afford to continue doing this. As of this week, the team has agreed to take a reduced salary in order to help stretch out our remaining reserve funds. However, I don't believe we'll be able to reopen for several more months and my emergency savings won't last forever.
Many of you have asked how you can financially support D&D during this difficult time. Instead of supporting D&D, I would prefer that you help support all of our amazing staff members that need the most assistance during the crisis.
So, I've set up this relief fund to help cover 8 weeks of emergency pay to the D&D team. 100% of all funds donated will go directly to them and I will personally match each donation 100%.
Here's what you need to know:
1. To repeat, 100% of your donation will be used for emergency pay for all 12 staff members.
2. In addition, all donations will be matched 100% by me, the owner, out of my own savings.
3. Please come visit: all donors are eligible to receive gift certificate, electronically, for the full value of your donation. Simply forward your e-mail certificate to [email redacted] and we'll send you a gift certificate over as soon as we've reactivated our booking system (it's turned off right now to save money!)
4. Your gift certificate will never expire and it's also 100% transferable to anyone you'd like.
5. I'll post an update each week that I issue emergency payments to the team with the amount in dollars (and Lempiras) spent.
How much is the emergency pay per person?
The emergency pay is around $175/month/person and is enough for basic necessities. While it might not sound like a lot, the team has agreed on that number (of 1,000 Lps. per week) is what they need to be able to take care of their families.
$5,000 equates to 8 weeks of emergency pay and—with me matching 100%—we can cover 16 weeks, or up to ~August 15th.
What if more than $5,000 is raised?
Should we pass our goal, I'll allocate these funds towards any emergency healthcare expenses for staff (prioritizing COVID-19 related expenses). I'll also provide a solidarity contribution to our birding/hiking guides, Rolando and Fredy, who are not D&D employees. Any additional funds will be set aside in a reserve to help cover any emergency pay past the 16-week period I envision $5k + matching funds to cover.
What happens after August 15th?
I hope we are able to reopen by then, but if not then I will take out loans in order to be able to continue to pay the staff the same emergency pay.
Who is getting funded?
Here is a photo of each member of the D&D team:

I'll post a bit of info about each person in updates during the campaign :)
Please remember that no donation is too small.
Anything will have a large impact on the livelihood of each staff member. The importance of your support at this time can't be overstated.
Warning: You might get hugged
Please note that, should you choose to visit us to take advantage of your certificate once COVID-19 is over, you might get hugged by at least 12 people. You have been warned.
