Treatment & Support for Daniel

Every face of cancer has a story and this is Daniel’s…

In November, 2017, Daniel started feeling pain every time he took deep breaths, coughed or sneezed.  Concerned, he went to his GP and an X-ray showed he had calcified nodules on his lungs.  He was told it was probably an infection and was referred to a Respirologist.  From there he spent over a year getting more X-rays, CT scans, bone scans and going to many doctors appointments, but he still had no answers.  His pain increased, as well as his fatigue and he developed pleural effusion and thickening around his right lung but still there was no reason revealed.  On Feb 1st 2019 Daniel had surgery to investigate and biopsy the thickened tissue around his right lung.  A week and half later he was diagnosed with a very rare cancer called Epithelioid Hemangioenothlioma (EHE).  It is a cancer under the umbrella of Sarcomas, and very rare at that.  So rare that the estimated incidence of this tumour is less than 1 per million people.  Unlike other known cancers, research has been very limited, and therefore, there is no proven effective therapy.  And so the research began!  Daniel decided to take on a vegan lifestyle, eliminating all processed foods, meat and dairy.  If he was going to fight this, he would start by cleaning up his body, starving the cancer and building his immunity so he can be prepared for what lies ahead.  After consulting with many oncologists and naturopaths, he has decided to start with an alternative cancer treatment.  It is a holistic focused clinic, overseen by doctors and specialists, to treat not just the body, but also the mind and spirit.

Daniel would be the last person to ask for help. In fact, he is unaware of this fundraiser as we speak.  But he is the husband to Alanna and father to his 2 young boys, Ezra; 5 and Makai; 2, and they all need him to be there for their family and watch his boys grow up and thrive. He is the father that is present and 100% hands-on. He comes home from work and feeds the kids, cleans up and stays in their bedroom until they fall asleep.  He is the husband that makes breakfasts on the weekend so his wife can sleep in.  He is the son that calls his parents every day just to hear what they’re up to, accompanying them on an errand just to hang out with them.  He is the brother, uncle, cousin and friend that drops everything if you need him for anything. He is someone special to anyone that is lucky enough to cross paths with him.

Being the main provider for his family, this disease has also put a stress on their finances.   He is unable to work as he is still in immense pain that is unpredictable and debilitating. Alanna has put her business as a Sleep Consultant on hold as she supports Daniel with his appointments, tests and treatments and taking care of their little boys. The last thing they need is to stress over this financial burden.  Currently Daniels treatments have cost $60,000.  The money raised will help Daniel in his journey to healing.  We believe in the power of faith and hope, so if you can only offer a prayer, a wish, and good intention, you have already made a difference. We thank you for all your support.
