Winter is officially upon us
Out comes the sweaters, the scarves, the coats and maybe some hot coco BUT for some these basic needs are a luxury.
Washington D.C was surveyed to have over 11,000 people without permanent shelter last winter. Of those, over 1,000 homeless are sleeping outside in the Washington D.C. region on a given day. They are sleeping out in freezing temperatures dropping to below 20 degrees.
But we can do something about this homeless crisis within our own community!
We are a group of Georgetown Students who are raising funds to buy the following items below to distrubute to the homeless community around Washington D.C.
With your help we will be buying:
-Gloves
-Scarves
-Socks
-Blankets
-Hats
-Hand Warmers
-Lip Balm
-Re-usable bags
-Hygiene items
-etc.
Where will we be distributing the care packages?
-Foggybottom Metro
-Dupont Metro
-Faraguet West Metro
-Franklin Square Park
-M street
- Between the Watergate and Whitehurst Freeway
-Near 26th and K street
***Additional funds will be given to homeless shelters in the DC/MD/VA area***
