With the uncertainty of consistent funding from the State of Michigan, it has become increasingly difficult to support our vibrant, award-winning band program with what it needs to be successful; this would include replacement of aging instruments, purchase of specialty instruments, and provision of equipment needed for marching band. Percussion and many specialty instruments (like tubas and bassoons) are expensive, and the band budget is very limited. Rewarding experiences like having workshops, clinicians, and guest conductors require outside funding.  The district will maintain our current band program funding, but there are no funds available to provide enhancements.

Therefore, we are creating a once a year fund drive to (instruments, clinics, etc). Our goal for the first year is to have 130 people pledge $100 once a year to purchase a new marimba which costs approximately $13,000.00.

Music is a very important part of our culture. From motion picture soundtracks to commercials to sporting events, music is all around us. And where do these musicians come from? Our schools! Many Dexter alumni have gone on to pursue a career in music.  Dexter is extremely fortunate to have a team of outstanding band directors and the Dexter community has become used to the high achieving bands. But it takes a lot of work to get there.
