Help Luna walk again
Sunday night, October 10th, Luna tried to get on the bed and didn’t make it up and yelped in pain. After that, we noticed she was hunching her back and didn’t seem normal.
We took her to the local animal ER where they assess her to not have a fracture or noticeable pain. They gave her IV pain killer and sent her home with medications for pain and anti-inflammatory. They send us home with information on IVDD (intervertebral disc disease).
Monday morning the next day she was walking fine still a little loopy from medication. However, around 9-9:30, we noticed she wasn’t using her back legs. We freaked out and cried because we could see it in her eyes she didn’t understand why she couldn’t use her back legs!
We immediately called her primary vet and stated the next 24 hours were crucial to get her to a neurologist. She referred us to a neurologist in UW pet hospital however they couldn’t take her in, they were at full capacity! We called around 2 other hospitals and luckily found WVRC in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Needless to say, it was a crazy Monday morning with our emotions running high to get Luna help.
Luna has been assessed at WVRC since yesterday.
This morning after having her MRI and Radiologist review her results they have determined she has a mild compression in her mid-back. Surgery is the next step from here. Luna’s doctor does mention she still feels her back legs, doctor has pinch each toe and Luna recognizes them (she’s fighting) so that’s a really good sign. The success rate of this surgery to get her walking again is a 90 %. We have given the go on that and she will have her surgery this morning, October 12.
With that being said the financial disadvantage of this surgery is the cost associated with the MRI, surgery, and hospitalization. Any donations that we receive in paying for Luna’s surgery are appreciated beyond words or expression.
We are crushed and our heart aches that our baby has to go through all this experience.
We know we have her in our life because of the amount of love and support that she has gotten from all our friends, family, and virtual pups! Our baby is strong and a fighter!
All help is appreciated, donation, sharing, and sending positive thoughts and prayers for Luna!
Thank you for your healing energy, prayers, generosity, and well wishes! Let’s get Luna walking again ❤️
