What is the DC Music Summit?

DC Music Summit (DCMS) is an award-winning 501(3)c non-profit organization based in Washington, DC, headed by artist Dior Ashley Brown since 2016. With the goal of empowering the music economy by fostering an inclusive community based on creativity, entrepreneurship, and workforce development within the nation’s capital. Since then we have grown our team to almost a dozen volunteer staff members, won grants, and have produced multiple summits with vetted industry professionals to educate and empower the music community to increase rapid growth. This year we are planning a memorable summit for the DC community.

Why is DCMS needed?

It’s rare to have the ability to be creative and even harder to create and sustain full-time employment which is the dream that so many people hold. Washington, DC is a rapidly developing region with immense musical talent, but we’re not known for independent musician careers that are able to sustain longevity. There's a rich and unique musical culture here that must be uplifted and supported—the health and inclusive growth of this city depend on it.

So DCMS was created as a bridge to that longevity and sustaining music careers through community engagement, networking opportunities, and our annual summit. Which will help musicians and supporting industry professionals to develop strong relationships and skills needed to launch and reinforce their careers.

Why We Need Your Help!

DCMS is run by an all-volunteer staff. As a growing organization, we’re working to step up the quality and breadth of support offerings to the community. In order to continue to better support the DC creative community and enable successful careers, we need a central space to better engage more frequently, and more directly with artists in the heart of where they live and work.

What We’re Funding:

Our Office Space—DCMS needs a home. Current market conditions make affordable office space in the district financially almost out of reach. In this post-pandemic time, it is more important than ever to normalize in-person connections again, as it's through these that the artists we support make a living. Offering artists, a space to connect with DCMS and its vital resources gives us more opportunities to reach a wider audience, and support creatives in the District. Costs are high, but DCMS knows our community is worth fighting for a space is needed to continue to connect our community, reach our community and facilitate support to our community.

Admin Support- There is a lot of work to be done and we want don't our efforts to go unnoticed! We need to hire administrative support for our day-to-day operations to include email follow-up, scheduling, project planning, fundraising management, logistics, website updates, direct marketing, and keeping our nonprofit documentation and books organized and up to date.

Receiving funding by March 30th will help us to better serve our community!
