THE BLUEGRASS ROOTS PROJECT

    As most of you know funding for arts and music in public schools has been drastically reduced. Many students go through school totally unaware of our country's rich musical heritage such as blues, jazz, and bluegrass, the absolute joy that bluegrass music has given to so many, and the possibilities for them to play this music as a hobby or even professionally. In this area (So Cal) this is especially true.

       The Bluegrass Roots Project aims to immerse K-6 students in an exciting bluegrass experience, first with some excellent course material, videos, and a coloring book all provided by the International Bluegrass  Music Association (IBMA).

       Then a full concert of high-energy, hard-driving mountain and bluegrass music will be provided by the Vulcan Mt Boys at the school. In the concert there will be a short discussion of the history of bluegrass music and a quick demonstration of the instruments, the song structure, and the all-important concept of bluegrass "Drive". Also a quick vocal harmony demonstration will be given.

The Vulcan Mt Boys aim to play up to 10 of these assemblies in the 2019/2020 school year with your help. Any excess fundraising will be used to add more assemblies, even into the next school year. We know these assemblies will leave a lasting impression on the students. With your help we could be connecting with 4000-5000 students! The response of these students to the energy we bring is completely unbelievable! We'll update you with some video in the future to show you all this.

      We will also be providing resources to help these students pursue the listening or playing of bluegrass music. All funds raised here go to paying the musicians (at our standard local rate), sound equipment, and supplies. Please help us preserve bluegrass music in this generation of students with your donation.
