Running in Remission - for prostate cancer and firefighters

Ben Weedon is organising and carrying out fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK and the Firefighters Charity. He is being supported By Andrew Furbear, head of finance for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, who is managing the account and funds received, and will distribute the funds during the period of fundraising to the two nominated charities.

For those that know me, you will know I have an active life in both my career in the Fire Service and also in my outside life with my family and my sporting passion Ultra Marathon Running. Late August I received the difficult news I had been diagnosed with Stage 2 Prostate Cancer. After processing what had happened, I elected to go for the surgery which I had at the end of November 2024.

I have now made a good recovery with the recent tests showing clear. I recognise I am in a really fortunate position and now wish to make use of the opportunities I have give something back. I will be fundraising for the two wonderful charities who have supported me in my journey - The FireFighters Charity and Prostate Cancer UK. They are two excellent charities providing support to those who need it.

I will be continuously raising funds for these two charities through a succession of Ultra-Marathon races over the next few years. Any support and donations would be gratefully received, both personal and corporate donations are welcome.

The account will be managed with support by the wonderful finance team at Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service. The funds will be equally split between the two charities.
