New Scooter or Wheelchair
Donation protected
Hi, this is Joey Nagy. I'm starting a GoFund Me because on October 27th my dad was crossing the street in his scooter on Mannheim Road in Stone Park and he was hit by a car. He broke his leg and was bruised up very badly but luckily he survived. His scooter was totaled. He has been in both the hospital and a rehabilitation facility since the accident. Infact, after being released from the hospital and staying at rehab, the insurance tried to send him home. Before that could happen he contracted COVID-19 and so he was sent back to the hospital. He is anticipating going back to rehab sometime this week. He is certain that Medicare will try and release him to go home shortly. The problem with that is that his scooter is his only means of getting around his apartment. His Multiple Sclerosis has advanced and he has severely deteriorated over the past few years. He is not only no longer able to walk, but he also can no longer stand either. Medicare has refused to replace his scooter which is detrimental for him to function on his own and navigate his apartment. He doesn't know what to do. He is also going to talk with a physical therapist to see if they can justify him getting an electric wheelchair because of his current needs that have resulted with his MS. But of course it's up to Medicare if they will cover it or not. Because my dad is not ambulatory, he suffers from several swelling of his ankles and feet. The wheelchair would help with this because there are some that the legs rise and the back reclines. If he is able to get the wheelchair, there is still the issue that Medicare only covers the cost of 80% and my dad would be responsible for the rest of the cost. So, I want to ask you if you could find it in your heart to help my dad.
