Josie Westmiller, an amazing lighthearted 16-year-old girl with the most contagious smile suffered a brain aneurysm on Saturday Aug 18, 2018.
After enjoying soccer practice of the sport Josie loves she was suffering from an intense headache. Josie tried to lie down and sleep it off but knew something was wrong. A trip to the ER and a few tests later Josie and her family were notified she had a brain aneurysm. Josie was immediately airlifted to Syracuse Upstate Medical Hospital where after further evaluation was given devastating news that the aneurysm had ruptured.
Late Sunday morning Josie had emergency brain surgery to correct the ruptured brain aneurysm.
After a dreadful few hours Josie’s family was informed that Josie’s surgery was successful. However, during surgery a blood clot formed and traveled down the right dominate vessel in her brain. With risks the doctors decide to let the clot take its course and keep an eye on it.
So far… Josie is responding well and has not had any more complications. She has good days and not so good days as her body attempts to heal from this tragic ordeal.
With hopes and prayers Josie continues to heal and will be in Upstate Medical Hospital for at least 3 weeks with many more follow-up appointments and tests to come.
Josie is surrounded by family day in and day out as she continues to heal but misses soccer and can’t wait to get back on the soccer field with her teammates, friends, and coaches.
If you could please support Josie and her family by donating and share this message with your friends and families, it will help Josie’s family with short-term and long-term expenses while she fights to recover from this devastating injury.
We really appreciate your help… #JosieStrong
