He is tiny but oh he is so mighty!
Like most couples, you plan on having a baby and know it will not be an easy traditional task but you finally get pregnant and are overjoyed. After the first trimester you start to put your guard down and get excited about the baby you are growing. You start making plans and dreaming of how everything from your pregnancy, to delivery and the first few days of being a new parent is going to go. . My stepdaughter Lyssa and her beautiful wife Hannah, did just that. They made plans and put those plans in motion by conceiving a miracle baby. Most Moms get 40 weeks to prepare for their bundles of joy. They get the baby showers and the birthing classes, but not our girls. Life said “plot twist!”
My name is Heather and I am writing this plea on behalf of my stepdaughter and her wife and our new grandson as they could use all the assistance they can get.
You see Hannah had some complications a few weeks ago and needed to be hospitalized for her safety and the safety of Baby Oliver (yep, SURPRISE it’s a boy!).
Last Wednesday April 30th, it was no longer safe for Baby Oliver or his Mama to continue the pregnancy. He had a better chance at surviving by being born now. Hannah had to have an emergency c-section. I can tell you it was one of the most stressful days in our family’s lives. All six grandparents, along with many family members and friends, prayed hard for the best outcome for Mama and baby. And God blessed us as our grandson arrived safely! He was born at 26 weeks gestation. Which is VERY early! So early that he is considered a MICRO PREMIE He weighs 1lb 4oz and is 12 1/2 inches long. He came out breathing on his own and needing only minimal assistance!!! Our tiny warrior is indeed a miracle . But that was just step one.
To say they have a long road ahead of them would be an understatement. Hannah endured some complications with her epidural and is still experiencing negative side effects from it, which at times leaves her unable to function. It is not really allowing her to sit up straight without a massive headache and dizziness which is causing nausea. And on top of that she is healing from her c-section. This poor Mama has been through it.
Little Oliver has also experienced some set backs. He is now intubated to help support his breathing. And last evening they discovered little Oliver has a grade 4 brain bleed, which only time will tell the effects of this. He also required a blood transfusion. And if that wasn’t enough, last evening they found out that he has a very serious infection.
Both of his Mommies are stressed out to say the least and worried for their mighty little fighter, as any parent would be. This isn’t how this was supposed to go. To top it off they are torn between daily responsibilities and caring for their new son.
Our daughter Alyssa is spending all of her time between the NICU and taking care of her beautiful wife. Unfortunately they both are only given limited time off of work to heal and be with their son, who will be in the NICU likely until August. Can you imagine having to leave your new baby in the hospital for months after his birth?!? Again, they were not expecting him to arrive so soon. They were not prepared for this. Bills stop for no one. Not even the tiniest of blessings named Oliver. In fact, the bills will increase every single day until he is discharged from the NICU. There are costs of driving from their home multiple times a day to the hospital. Not to mention trying to worry about meals to keep their energy levels up.
What I am asking for is help, help to allow these new parents precious time with their little miracle. To not have to worry about costs of meals. Not having to worry about simple costs like gas, medications on top of every day bills, car payments etc..
Every single dollar will go to them directly. Help us to take just a little bit of the stress off their shoulders and allow them to process what just happened.
Every dollar helps, and if you can’t spend that extra money right now to help I understand completely, then I ask for your prayers for this new little family’s health. It would be greatly appreciated.
****To protect Oliver’s safety I will not post any pictures online of his face or medical equipment as he is a sick little guy. But I will try and update as frequently as I possibly can on his progress as well as his Mama’s.
Thank you greatly for taking the time to read this and for praying over this little miracle of ours.
