This fundraiser is to get Sean out of the nursing home and back home with their family and cats, and to take care of the expenses that have come up cos of 95% of their income going to the home. Sean is in the home after their lymphedema got so bad they couldn't walk. Unfortunately, they went into the nursing home about 2 months before covid shut everything down, so Sean didn't get the physical therapy that they needed to get back on their feet.
The absolute bare minimum to get the house livable for Sean is a hospital bed and heavy duty wheelchair. These both have to be rated for Sean's weight, which means more expensive. The chair looks like it'll run about $1250 new, and Hel (Sean's bestie&roommate, the one running this gofundme cos US disability law sucks) can't find any of the right size used. The bed looks like it'll be around $4000, and again, Hel can't find one with the necessary specs used.

In the meantime, while Medicaid is currently covering Sean getting PT at the nursing home following Sean being having to go to the ER with an intestinal perforation, medicaid isn't going to cover getting Sean all the way back to walking. So we're talking to the home about either paying them out of pocket to continue PT, or hiring someone to come in and do it.
The money will also go to widening the doorways to fit Sean's chair (proper widening instead of Hel ripping out the frame with a crowbar), and getting the shower redone to be accessible. If there's anything left after *that*, we'd like a chair lift, since the laundry is downstairs, but again, as with the chair and bed, we need the higher weight rating. If we go *way* over goal, we could get a chair lift to upstairs too, so Sean could have an actual bedroom instead of having to sleep in the office on the ground floor.
