Get Joe Back on His Feet
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Julia Walker Afrasiabi (Joe Walker’s sister) and I am organizing this fundraiser.
On Sunday, May 21 Joe got into a serious motorcycle accident in Berkeley CA which left him with major fractures to his pelvis, femur, tibia/fibula on both legs as well as humerus and ligament damage in one knee. He was rushed to the trauma center in Oakland where he was put on life support and stabilized. The following 7 days required 5 surgeries and constant attention to vital signs. At this time, he is stable and seems to be making very slow progress on his very long road to recovery.
For those who don’t know him, this is no ordinary Joe. Those legs, now broken, carried him through the Pacific Crest Trail, and then biked back from Canada to Mexico. If that wasn’t enough, he caught the triathlon bug and competed in several events, including a full Iron Man. Enough? Not this Joe…he moved next into high-level road cycling and mountain biking. Go legs go!
In addition to his strong legs, Joe has skilled hands which he uses as a barber at the renowned Temescal Alley Barber Shop in Oakland. In addition, Joe has used his hands and heart to create beautiful artwork, capturing unique imagery inspired by a spirit of creativity, experience and love.
Our goal with this fundraiser is to provide resources to bring the very best care and support for Joe on his very long road to recovery. This will include transitioning him from the hospital into top quality rehab facility and living situation to help him advance to full mobility, functionality and recovery. My family is grateful for the amazing support thus far and appreciates all of your contributions to this fundraiser.
Together, let’s get Joe back on his feet!!
