Hi, my name is Jackie and I'm fund raising for Grace.
To all my friends and family, and friends and family of theirs.
I’m reaching out to ask for your thoughts, prayers, and — if you're able — a little support for a dear friend of mine, Nadine, and her brave 8-year-old daughter, Gracie. I know that many of us are going through difficult times right now, but I hope you can take a moment for this.
On Thursday afternoon, April 10th, Gracie had a devastating accident while playing in the garden. In a freak incident, six of her fingertips were severed, and one of her big toes was crushed. She spent time in ICU and has since been moved to the pediatric ward. Gracie has already undergone four surgeries, with another scheduled for Tuesday 22 April. A specialist surgeon has been called in to try and save her fingers. If that’s not possible, some may need to be amputated.
Despite everything, Gracie is showing incredible strength and spirit. She’s even been drawing pictures for the nurses and doctors to thank them for their care.
Nadine herself underwent major surgery at the start of April and had to work from home during her recovery. Just as she was finishing her sick leave, Gracie had her accident. Unfortunately Nadine has had to go back to work as she can no longer stay off from work. The pressure of juggling work during the day, hospital visits during lunch times & overnight stays with Gracie has taken a huge toll on Nadine.
Gracie's dad, Malcolm has flown from London to be with her, he is giving Grace the love, support and encouragement to stay strong.
Nadine’s mom, Wanda, has come down from Cape Town to help care for Gracie during the day, but without a car, they’ve been relying on Uber to get to and from the hospital. On top of that, they’re having to buy food from the hospital canteen, and may need to pay the specialist surgeon privately if he’s not covered by their medical aid.
Right now, we’re asking — first and foremost — for your prayers and positive thoughts for Gracie, Nadine & Malcolm. If you’re in a position to contribute financially, even just a small amount, it would mean the world to them.
I’m receiving regular updates on Gracie’s condition, so if you’d like to check in or send a message, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you so much, and God bless you all.
