Alec's Medical Bills

On the evening of September 15, 2018, my brother, Alec, aka Foster, 23, was leaving a private residence where he and two women he had just met at a party earlier in the evening, were sitting around a fire drinking beers.  They had called an old male friend to join them and then decided to all go see a movie.  They had another friend come pick them up and then told Alec that there was no room for him in the car, so Alec preceded to walk home which he had done on many occasions.  The two women tried to convince Alec to take an Uber and he said he’d just like to walk home.  They followed him down the street where he decided to sit down to speak with them, and then they called their male friends to come to convince him to take an Uber.  The two males drove down the street and parked in front of where Alec was sitting. The passenger came over to Alec and asked him to take an Uber.  Eventually, words became heated as Alec told them that he simply wanted to walk home. When Alec stood up, the male, a large 6’5” ex-Marine, punched Alec in the face.  Alec fell to the ground and came back up holding his jaw and held his hand up saying, “ok, ok”.  The male punched him 2 more times in the face, knocking him unconscious.  Alec’s 6’3” frame fell onto the street “like a log” according the two women, severely fracturing his jaw in 2 places around his chin causing his lower teeth to sink in.  He was unconscious for 20-30 seconds and when he came to, he realized there was blood everywhere and he had no idea what happened.  He kept saying, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry” not knowing what he had done to cause the violent assault.  The two women called for an ambulance and he was rushed to Los Robles Hospital.

Over the next 5 days, Alec underwent numerous treatments for his fractured lower jaw, slightly fractured upper jaw, blackened eyes, and a two inch laceration under his chin that needed stitches, and because of insurance issues, was shuffled between hospitals where he awaited surgery in ICU.  His fracture was so bad that Alec was swallowing his own tongue causing airway obstruction and painful/labored swallowing.  Finally, on Thursday, September 20, he underwent a 6 hour surgery to try to bring his fractured chin back into place.  He now has 4 plates and screws holding his jaw together and has been wired shut.  Today we are going into the 4th week of this tragic incident.  He’s lost over 12 pounds, has been unable to work, and because of the loss of blood supply to the chin, may end up losing his lower teeth.  We just found out that his insurance will not pay any portion of the bill to have his Arch bars and wires removed from his mouth and any further damage that was caused, i.e. teeth, occlusion, or need for any other dental work at a later date, will be at his own expense. He is already looking at thousands of dollars in accumulated medical as well as future dental expenses and his lost income. Any assistance you can give us to help Alec get back on his feet without the endless worry of how he’s going to pay his bills, fix his teeth, get his wires off, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone!
