Support the Lenihan Family in Memory of Rich

Donation protected
On April 9, 2020, Richard Lenihan passed away after a 3-week battle with coronavirus. Anyone who knew Rich knew he was larger than life. An NYPD sergeant, 9/11 first responder, a man of faith, and proud Irish American, Rich loved his family and country. If someone needed a hand or even just a laugh- Rich was their first call. There aren’t words to describe the void his loss will leave in our family and the town of Pearl River.

Our family is extremely grateful and appreciative of the outpouring of support we have received over the past few weeks. Given these tragic and unforeseen circumstances the family has set up this donation portal in an effort to support the Lenihan family. All contributions and donations will be allocated towards funeral expenses and medical bills associated with Rich’s fight against the coronavirus.

Many of you probably knew him for his willingness to lend a hand at the drop of a hat. There wasn’t much that Rich couldn’t fix, but he would show up with much more than just a helping hand. Always prepared with a story, impression or joke, Rich had a way of lighting up a room and was the life of the party. He valued friendship and laughter more than anything, and he brought both to all who knew him.

He proudly served the city of New York for 20 years as a member of the NYPD. Long after he retired from the force, he remained active in the community supporting fellow police officers and first responders. Rich was a loyal member of the AOH, and was heavily involved in the organization. You likely saw him marching down Central Ave carrying the American Flag on St. Patrick’s Day, and this year was even appointed as the Aide to the Grand Marshal. Or for those of you who knew him in his younger years, you may have seen him doing one-handed wheelies on his motorcycle or revving the engine of his Chevelle as he cruised through Sloatsburg. He loved the ocean - everything from body surfing in LBI with his family to scuba diving with cousins and friends in the Cayman islands.

Rich was truly one of a kind.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to help support Patty, Caitlin and Patrick during these extremely difficult and unexpected times.

There is a fundraising goal listed here (required by the site), but of course there is no specific amount in mind. Any contribution to the family during these times is greatly appreciated. More than anything, we would love for this to serve as a place for you all to share your stories and memories of Rich.

Thank you,

The Lenihan & Kehrli families
