Controller in Greenville, South Carolina. Mickey has worked for 11 years for Robinson Aviation (RVA) the last 9 years here at Greenville Downtown FCT. Mickey enlisted in the US Navy in 2002 and was on active duty until 2007. When he left active duty, he joined the Navy Reserves in 2007 until his separation in 2018. Mickey married his long time sweetheart, Timika, in 2003. They have one child, Trey, that is 13 years old.
On September 27, 2019; Mickey was cutting grass in his backyard and cutting uphill, when his riding mower rear wheels started spinning; then caught, flipping the lawn mower over and pinning him underneath it. Mickey's son and his brother-in-laws young children, were the only people home at the time. Trey ran to his dads rescue and helped lift the heavy mower off his dad, but Mickey couldn't walk nor get up due to his injuries; he was in very intense pain . A frightened Trey, called 911 and then called his mother, who was grocery shopping and told her of the incident and to hurry home. An ambulance arrived on the scene shortly, secured Mickey, and transported him to the nearest hospital, 15 miles from his home.
When rushed into the ER at Greenville Memorial Hospital, doctors and specialists determined an MRI and a CT scan needed to be done to determine the extent of his injuries. Doctors, with the help of the results, diagnosed Mickey with a compression fracture of the L1 vertebrae and swelling of the spinal cord. On September 28th; Mickey was taken into surgery where surgeons performed a 4 hour surgery to fuse the L2 through T12 vertebra. He also encountered severe bruising of the spinal cord. Mickey is expected to recover and lead a normal life after a long rehabilitation. His hospital stay, surgery, medication and treatments in the hospital for 8 days, have come to $122,000 so far and he still has rehab to do. With this being said, he will be out of work for 6 to 12 weeks. He had no health insurance since he separated from the reserves in 2018 . The company employees(RVA), have Mickey covered on his necessary rehabilitation leave, but he is in need of assistance on his medical expenses.
I am starting this gofundme page, because Mickey is a compassionate and understanding God fearing person, a devoted family man, faithful husband and father; not to mention, a great Air Traffic Controller. There is a lot of stress in owing a large sum of money to the hospital for medical treatment. If we can help relieve some of that stress through donations; we would greatly appreciate any form of contribution to his means.
