Hola Friends and Family!
So... I have been accepted to be a part of an amazing expereince; an Interprofessional International Field School in Mexico! I am looking for any help towards my fundraising for this trip.
Myself and 13 other Vancouver Island University students will be going to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, in May for five weeks. While we are there, we will be engaging in health promotion and disease prevention activities, focusing on child development and women’s and children’s health. We will utilize our knowledge and compassion in orphanages, women's shelters and centers, child care facilities and potentially the local hospital. We also hope to come to understand the role of the health care system and the social determinants of health, in Mexico.
This trip will cost each of us about $4000 plus $1200 for tuition. A portion of what we fundraise will also go to the facilities we will be working with to assist them in their healthcare needs. So any help is mucho appreciated! We have already started to fundraise and are looking forward to this experience!
I have dreamt of an expereince like this since I knew I wanted to be a nurse, and I am excited to share my journey with all of you. Through this expereince I hope to become more competent in cultural safety and how to provide culturally congruent care.
