Support Our Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Community

Tax deductible
I’m Phil Lundberg, president and CEO of the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, known by everyone as OCOM, which is based in the Old Town neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. After 41 years of excellence in acupuncture and Chinese medicine education, OCOM is closing.

I am sharing this fundraiser on behalf of the college’s board of trustees. We are so proud of our team and our more than 1,500 graduates. Our alumni work in all 50 states and around the world and have given millions of acupuncture treatments to tens of thousands of people managing everything from chronic pain to cancer treatment. Despite the financial hurdles we’ve faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the grief of preparing to graduate our last class in August, I hear gratitude, pride, and solidarity from our team. They’re grateful for the privilege of nurturing talented, compassionate graduate students. They are proud of the rigor they brought to Eastern medicine, and the collaborative spirit they brought to Western medicine. And they’re really showing up for each other.

Please help us show up for OCOM employees. We are raising money to go above and beyond what’s in our official closure budget to give front-line faculty and staff members as much financial support as possible as they transition to new jobs. Will you support this great team?

Students and alumni asked for this fundraiser, and trustees approved it. They knew patients, neighbors, friends and our far-flung community would want to give extra support to employees. They’re worth it.

Staff and faculty worked tirelessly to create plans for every student in every class to continue their education with our exceptional Portland neighbor, the National University of Natural Medicine, or at Five Branches University, a respected California graduate school with campuses in Santa Cruz and San Jose – or at any school they choose to attend.

Now is our chance to help front-line employees. Every penny raised through this GoFundMe campaign will benefit the OCOM team by:

  • Providing bigger retention bonuses to ensure adequate staffing so every student gets the transition services they need.
  • Offering larger severance payments so employees can take better care of themselves and their families as they look for work.
  • Covering some medical benefits through school-funded COBRA coverage.

OCOM is a uniquely close-knit and caring place. Every dollar you give would support this circle and pay our legacy forward. For example, if you help us raise:

  • $5,000, we could give every eligible employee a week of COBRA medical coverage.
  • $25,000, we could give staff and faculty an additional day of severance.
  • $63,000, we could give staff and faculty a $1,000 retention bonus.

Please consider a gift. Honor the healers and the helpers as they write their own book of changes at this turbulent time in their careers, in Portland, and in our world.

Thank you.

Phil
