Enzo's Fight against Leukemia

Donation protected
On May 2nd, 2023 our 21 month old son Crescenzo was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

This is his story:

On April 27th 2023, Enzo woke up with a small fever. It was only about 100 so I gave him some Tylenol. He has been teething lately and because his canines are coming in we didn’t think very much of it. We went to bed that night and he was fine.

On the 28th, he woke up with 102 fever, so we called his pediatrician and at this point she thought that it was a virus which has been going around either the flu or something like that but the only symptom that he had was a fever. She said to come back on Monday if he still had a fever And so we went home and we gave him some more Tylenol.
That evening on Friday Enzo woke up with 105.8 fever so almost 106. My husband Alex and I rushed him to the emergency room and they did his vitals and said that they thought it was a virus and they sent him home without doing any bloodwork or any other diagnostic tests.

By Sunday, He had a consistent fever of 105 which would not go down even with giving him multiple doses of Tylenol and Motrin or tepid baths.

On Monday May 1st, he went to see his pediatrician again and she thought that he might have a urinary track infection. They performed a catheter test in her office and we waited about 10 minutes for the results to come back because at this point, it looked very much like he had a bladder infection. When the results came back there was no infection. She was sending us to do labs and I asked if we could take his temperature again just to make sure that he didn’t have a fever but he was very hot and shaking at this point. When the temperature came back it was 104.7 and it was at this point that our amazing doctor said we need to go to the emergency room.

When we got to the emergency room he was taken back into a small room and we were there from 3:30 in the afternoon till 11 o’clock at night just running tests. By 11 o’clock his condition had deteriorated to the point where he was listless, white as a sheet with a very high fever, and he was bleeding out of his nose. We were going to lose him at this point and we did not even know what was wrong with him. They did a blood test on him and it came back that he had absolutely no blood. No white blood cells, no platelets, and it was very much looking at this point that it could be cancer but they were not sure. We were admitted that night into hematology and oncology.

On May 2nd, we got a diagnosis for Enzo and when it came back, it was the worst news we had heard in our entire lives, Leukemia, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia type B.

The next morning he had a procedure to determine whether the leukemia had spread his brain (it didn’t!!!) and also because we knew what type of cancer he had he received his first round of chemo.

On May 4, our Bubie underwent surgery to have a port put directly into his heart so that he could receive chemotherapy there and also have any blood taken.

Currently, we are waiting on his bone marrow test that was conducted. It will let us know if it was genetic or not and this will also determine if he will stay standard risk which is the lowest risk factor and he can continue with his treatment plan as needed. Thursday, he will be having a procedure where chemo again is directly put into his spine.

Enzos fight won't be a week, a month or even a year. Our son will need treatment for two and half years. The amount we are trying to raise is our estimation of costs over this time. We appreciate any and all donations, good thoughts, prayers and blood donations to not only help Enzo but other childhood cancer warriors like him.

Together, we can all stand up and fight Enzos fight.
