Hi, my name is Andre and I'm setting up this funding campaign for a late friend of mine who went the name of DB Hawkes.

He was the longest running Programmer/Broadcaster in the history of Toronto's, CIUT FM and his weekly Saturday night and Wednesday morning shows "Club Ned" and "Music ~ With DB Hawkes" were enjoyed by so many throughout his time on air.

His contribution to music and culture in our city cannot be overstated and as one who spent his life giving of himself to the community, it seems only right that we, his friends and colleagues, Toronto musicians and promoters and his extended family of radio listeners, need to band together to honour this man who put close to 40 years in people's ears, in a manner and style all his own.

A true Community Volunteer who harnessed the airwaves to bring the world to Toronto and Toronto to the world!

And he did it strictly for love.

DB is also renowned for having amassed an Archive of live recordings: Every Caribana, every Afrofest and virtually every Reggae concert that ever took place in Toronto. Now, a precious body of work consisting of 100's of hours of music history, in various media formats, must be secured, transported and safely stored. This task, along with the general gathering of his belongings, clearing out of the apartment and initial funeral costs are issues easily addressed, but we need funds to get it going.

Time to give some love back.

All funds raised go directly to the his devoted wife and son managing the arrangements. They have a very challenging winter ahead of them and, due to the sudden passing of our friend and general financial circumstances, the need for help is immediate.
