Hello Everyone! My name is Mark Zimmermann and I'm a student on the Academy of Arts in Szczecin, Poland. Though I'm german, I decided to study in the country next to us (which is fairly unusual, as I'm the only german on my uni - learned the polish language).

Right now, I'm working on my diploma work, a real-film combined with clay-animation. The Story is about a young guy named Kevin who is in the phase of life in which the reality is coming closer and he is pressured to proceed to the responsible adult-life.

At home he is suppressed by women, his six sisters are making his life hard, telling him that he needs to grow up, find studies, be responsible etc. while he is trying to grab his childhood and his youthpower as much and as long as possible.

He is a lazy guy, wakes up late, doesn't help much with chores and didn't decide on any studies yet, the only thing he has is a job as a maintanance guy in a dialyse-station, where he is surrounded by people doing a more important job than himself.

When he hears about that he is going to be fired and therefore lose the only thing which kept his sisters from completely belittle him, his inner fight between him and his boss is starting, which is presented in form of plasticine, a material he used to relieve him from the stress he's confronted with every day.

The movie is in full process, four scenes for the actual film are already shot, and I have about 3 minutes of animation material, getting more every day!

Costs:

So far, creating the scenes working on a low budget, but there are quite some costs coming towards us because of postproduction and general payment, such as clothes, props and especially the clay, as I need a lot of it!

I mainly work with friends as actors for my movie, but there are a couple of scenes for which I needed some professional actresses, and there is still a scene to come for which I need a professional actor.

And most money is needed to send the movie into proper postproduction, with colleagues in London working on color correction and sound design.

Plus, it's an international production between Szczecin and Berlin, and the traveling costs are also adding up.

Time Schedule

So this project is posted on here relatively late, because the production of it started already. I have been working on it since December 2021, with several tryouts of animation, consultations with professors, collecting a good team and discussing design work.

As for now, we have 90% of all the shootings done, as well ~90% of the animation is filmed.

The following steps are filming the last scenes, doing reworks on them, sending all the material into the postproduction and adding subtitles at the very end, so I'm optimistic about completing this project!

Mark Zimmermann - Writer, Director, Executive Producer and Animator

Mark Zimmermann is a german student who studies experimental film on the Academy of Arts in Szczecin, Poland. He started in 2018 with pre-preperation in language, as the studies are in polish. Over the first year he discovered his passion for animation and combined it with his childhood-passion of playing with plasticine, a material that gave him full freedom about the toys/figures he wanted to play with.

Kacper Bukartyk - Camera Operator, Editing, Producer

Kacper Bukartyk is a student on the Academy of Arts in Szczecin. Aswell as Mark Zimmermann, he is studying experimental film and found passion in animation. He started studying in 2019 and started working together with Mark Zimmermann on this project, where he was originally planned to do the first shoot, but after a formidable team-work was added as a full member to the team.

Aleks Rydzkowska - Editing, Color Correction

Aleks Rydzkowska is a visual and technical artist working internationally in the areas of media and new technologies for art, majoring in documentary and experimental filmmaking. In her current research at the Royal Holloway University of London, she is exploring immersive and interactive narratives and prospects of ethical visual media at the service of social change.

Christopher Maher - Sound Design

Media Arts Technician at Royal Holloway University of London, teaching workshops on cinematography, sound design and editing. Active in producing music for games, films and animation, reviewing and photographing gigs

Kevin Ruppaner - Main Actor

Kevin Ruppaner is a childhood friend of the Director Mark Zimmermann. As being a student generally means not having sufficient income to afford a professional actor, I decided to chose him, as the story is partly inspired by his original life. He is currently studying electric engineering in Berlin.

Boris Aljinovic - Actor

Boris Aljinović is a German actor, director and radio play and audio book narrator. He became known to a wide audience as Berlin Tatort detective Felix Stark, whom he played between 2001 and 2014. He is also known for his role as Cloudy in 7 Dwarves.

Anna Konik - artistic supervisor/promoter of the work

Dr Anna Konik has worked in video installation, art film and paradocumentary since 2000. Her short art film Our Lady's Forever (2007) was screened at the 61st Locarno International Film Festival, and her art documentary Under a Placid Sky (2018) had its world premiere at the 58th Krakow Documentary Film Festival. She currently teaches at the Academy of Art in Szczecin and is the supervisor of Mark Zimmermann's thesis.

Izabela Plucińska - artistic supervision

Dr Izabela Plucinska is an animator and lecturer at the Academy of Art in Szczecin. Among others, she is the author of the animated films 'Jam Session' (2005, Silver Bear at the Berlinale) and 'Portrait of Suzanne' (2019, Oscar shortlist). In our project, she is in charge of the animated scenes

The whole project is a low-budget production, there is a lot of effort on DIY and making it as professional, as it gets with the equipment we have, now the final touch is about to be added!

My diploma work has to be finished by the 14th of september, so I'm working every single day without a break on it and will deliver it till the final date!

Hallo zusammen! Mein Name ist Mark Zimmermann und ich bin Student an der Akademie der Künste in Szczecin, Polen. Obwohl ich Deutscher bin, habe ich mich entschieden, in unserem Nachbarland zu studieren (was ziemlich ungewöhnlich ist, da ich der einzige Deutsche an meiner Uni bin - ich habe die polnische Sprache gelernt).

Im Moment arbeite ich an meiner Diplomarbeit, einem Realfilm kombiniert mit Knetanimation. Die Geschichte handelt von einem jungen Mann namens Kevin, der sich in einer Lebensphase befindet, in der die Realität immer näher rückt und er unter Druck gesetzt wird, in das verantwortungsvolle Erwachsenenleben überzugehen.

Zu Hause wird er von den Frauen unterdrückt, seine sechs Schwestern machen ihm das Leben schwer, sagen ihm, dass er erwachsen werden, studieren, Verantwortung übernehmen soll usw., während er versucht, seine Kindheit und seine Jugend so lange wie möglich zu genießen.

Er ist ein fauler Kerl, wacht spät auf, hilft kaum bei der Hausarbeit und hat sich noch nicht für ein Studium entschieden. Das einzige, was er hat, ist ein Job als Wartungsarbeiter in einer Dialyse-Station, wo er von Leuten umgeben ist, die einen wichtigeren Job machen als er.

Als er erfährt, dass er gefeuert werden soll und damit das Einzige verliert, was seine Schwestern davon abhält, ihn völlig zu vernachlässigen, beginnt der innere Kampf zwischen ihm und seinem Chef, der sich in Form von Knetmasse abspielt, einem Material, das er benutzt, um sich von dem Stress zu befreien, dem er jeden Tag ausgesetzt ist.

Der Film ist bereits in vollem Gange, vier Szenen für den Realfilm sind bereits gedreht und ich habe etwa 3 Minuten Animationsmaterial, jeden Tag werden es mehr!

Kosten:

Während die Erstellung der Szenen mit einem geringen Budget auskommt, wird ziemlich viel Geld für die benötigten Materialien ausgegeben, wie Kleidung, Requisiten und vor allem Ton, denn davon brauche ich eine Menge!

Ich habe hauptsächlich mit Freunden als Schauspieler für meinen Film gearbeitet, aber es gibt ein paar Szenen, für die ich professionelle Schauspielerinnen brauchte, und es wird noch eine Szene geben, für die ich einen professionellen Schauspieler brauche.

Und das meiste Geld wird benötigt, um den Film in eine ordentliche Postproduktion zu schicken, mit Kollegen in London, die an Farbkorrektur und Sounddesign arbeiten.

Außerdem ist es eine internationale Produktion zwischen Szczecin und Berlin, und die Reisekosten summieren sich ebenfalls.

Zeitplan:

Dieses Projekt wird hier also ziemlich spät gepostet, weil die Produktion bereits begonnen hat. Ich arbeite seit Dezember 2021 daran, mit mehreren Animationsversuchen, Konsultationen mit Professoren, der Zusammenstellung eines geeigneten Teams und der Besprechung der Design-Arbeiten.

Im Moment haben wir 90% aller Dreharbeiten hinter uns, und auch ~90% der Animationen sind gefilmt.

Die nächsten Schritte sind das Filmen der letzten Szenen sowie die Nachbearbeitung, das Senden des gesamten Materials an die Postproduktion und das Hinzufügen von Untertiteln ganz am Ende, so dass ich zuversichtlich bin, dieses Projekt abzuschließen!

Mark Zimmermann - Drehbuchautor, Regisseur, ausführender Produzent und Animator

Mark Zimmermann ist ein deutscher Student, der Experimentalfilm an der Akademie der Künste in Szczecin, Polen, studiert. Er begann 2018 mit einer sprachlichen Vorbereitung, da das Studium auf Polnisch stattfindet. Im Laufe des ersten Jahres entdeckte er seine Leidenschaft für Animation und kombinierte sie mit seiner kindlichen Leidenschaft für das Spielen mit Knete, einem Material, das ihm volle Freiheit bei der Wahl der Spielzeuge/Figuren gab, mit denen er spielen wollte.

Kacper Bukartyk - Kameramann, Schnitt, Produzent

Kacper Bukartyk ist Student an der Akademie der Künste in Szczecin. Genau wie Mark Zimmermann studiert er Experimentalfilm und hat seine Leidenschaft für Animation gefunden. Er hat 2019 sein Studium begonnen und arbeitet seither gemeinsam mit Mark Zimmermann an diesem Projekt, bei dem er ursprünglich für den ersten Dreh vorgesehen war, aber nach einer beeindruckenden Teamarbeit als vollwertiges Mitglied in das Team aufgenommen wurde.

Aleks Rydzkowska - Schnitt, Farbkorrektur

Aleks Rydzkowska ist eine visuelle und technische Künstlerin, die international in den Bereichen Medien und neue Technologien für die Kunst arbeitet, mit Schwerpunkt auf Dokumentar- und Experimentalfilm. In ihrer aktuellen Forschungsarbeit an der Royal Holloway University of London erforscht sie immersive und interaktive Narrative und die Möglichkeiten ethischer visueller Medien im Dienste des sozialen Wandels.

Christopher Maher - Sound Design

Media Arts Technician an der Royal Holloway University of London, unterrichtet Workshops in den Bereichen Kameraführung, Sounddesign und Schnitt. Aktiv in der Produktion von Musik für Spiele, Filme und Animationen, Rezensionen und Fotografieren von Gigs

Kevin Ruppaner - Hauptdarsteller

Kevin Ruppaner ist ein Jugendfreund des Regisseurs Mark Zimmermann. Da man als Student in der Regel kein ausreichendes Einkommen hat, um sich einen professionellen Schauspieler leisten zu können, habe ich mich für ihn entschieden, da die Geschichte von seinem eigenen Leben inspiriert ist. Er studiert derzeit Elektrotechnik in Berlin.

Boris Aljinović ist ein deutscher Schauspieler, Regisseur, Hörspiel- und Hörbuchsprecher. Einem breiten Publikum wurde er als Berliner Tatort-Kommissar Felix Stark bekannt, den er zwischen 2001 und 2014 spielte.

Anna Konik - künstlerische Betreuerin/Promotorin des Werks

Dr. Anna Konik arbeitet seit 2000 in den Bereichen Videoinstallation, Kunstfilm und Paradokumentarfilm. Ihr kurzer Kunstfilm Our Lady's Forever (2007) wurde auf dem 61. Die Anzahl der Leute, die an diesem Projekt arbeiten, ist rasant gestiegen, es gibt eine menge Nebendarsteller, Transporter, Tonaufnehmer und allgemeine Unterstützer!

Das ganze Projekt ist eine Low-Budget-Produktion, wir haben uns viel Mühe gegeben, es so professionell wie möglich zu machen mit dem Equipment, das wir haben, nein, der letzte Schliff fehlt noch!

Meine Diplomarbeit muss bis zum 14. September fertig sein, also arbeite ich jeden einzelnen Tag ohne Pause daran und werde sie bis zum Endtermin abliefern!

Cześć wszystkim!!! Nazywam się Mark Zimmermann i jestem studentem Akademii Sztuki w Szczecinie. Chociaż jestem Niemcem, zdecydowałem się studiować w sąsiednim kraju (co nie jest zbyt powszechne - jestem jedynym Niemcem na naszej uczelni i żeby móc uczestniczyć w zajęciach nauczyłem się języka polskiego).

Obecnie pracuję nad moją pracą dyplomową, stanowiącą połączenie filmu fabularnego i plastelinowej animacji poklatkowej. Fabuła Historia opowiada o młodym chłopaku o imieniu Kevin, do którego nieubłaganie zbliża się dorosłe, dojrzałe życie. Sześć sióstr z którymi dzieli mieszkanie utrudnia mu każdy dzień, mówiąc, że musi dorosnąć, znaleźć studia i zacząć być odpowiedzialnym.

Kevin, który jest leniwym facetem, nie należy do rannych ptaszków i ani myśli pomagać w domu, czy rozpoczynać studia. Jedyne co ma to stanowisko konserwatora w stacji dializ, w której otaczają go wyłącznie ludzie wykonujący ważniejsze i bardziej ambitne prace niż on.

Kiedy dowiaduje się, że zostanie zwolniony, a tym samym utraci jedyną rzecz, która powstrzymywała dotąd jego siostry przed całkowitym umniejszeniem jego osoby, rozpoczyna się wewnętrzna walka w jego głowie. Walka (między bohaterem i jego pracodawcą) metaforycznie przedstawiona jest w formie animacji wykonanej z plasteliny, materiału, którego Kevin używał, aby uwolnić się od stresu, z którym musi mierzyć się każdego dnia.

Produkcja filmu jest w toku, cztery sceny fabularne zostały już zrealizowane, w momencie pisania tego tekstu mamy też już 3 minuty materiału animowanego, ale praca trwa intensywnie i z każdym dniem materiałów jest coraz więcej!

Koszty

Film jest niskobudżetowy, ale wydajemy sporo pieniędzy na materiały, takie jak kostiumy, rekwizyty, a zwłaszcza plastelina wykorzystywana do animacji, ponieważ potrzebuję jej bardzo dużo! Do współpracy aktorskiej zaprosiłem głównie znajomych, ale są sceny, do których potrzebowałem profesjonalnych aktorek i jednego profesjonalnego aktora. Najwięcej pieniędzy potrzeba na wysłanie materiału do Londynu, gdzie zostanie wykonana postprodukcja (głównie w zakresie korekcji barwnej i sound-designu). Jednocześnie jest to produkcja międzynarodowa – część zdjęć powstaje w Berlinie, a część w Szczecinie – i odczuwamy również koszty transportu ekipy i sprzętu między tymi miastami.

Podsumowanie kosztów, na które potrzebne są nam fundusze:

Oś czasu

Sam projekt udostępniamy tutaj dość późno, ponieważ jego produkcja już się rozpoczęła. Pracuję nad nim od grudnia 2021, z kilkoma próbami animacji, konsultacjami z profesorami, zbieraniem odpowiedniego zespołu i omawianiem systematyki pracy. Wykonaliśmy już 90% zdjęć, jak również ~90% animacji. Kolejnym krokiem będzie zrealizowanie dwóch ostatnich scen i poprawki, wysłanie całego materiału do postprodukcji oraz wykonanie końcowych napisów, więc mam pozytywne odczucia odnośnie ukończenia całego projektu!

Jestem pochodzącym z Niemiec studentem Filmu na Akademii Sztuki w Szczecinie. Zacząłem w 2018 roku od przygotowań językowych, ponieważ studia są w języku polskim. W trakcie pierwszego roku studiów odkryłem swoją pasję do animacji i połączyłem ją z dziecięcą pasją do zabawy plasteliną, materiałem, który zawsze dawał mi pełną swobodę co do zabawek, czy figurek, którymi chciałem się bawić.

Kacper Bukartyk jest studentem Akademii Sztuki w Szczecinie. Podobnie jak Mark Zimmermann studiuje Film, a pasję odnalazł w animacji. Rozpoczął studia w 2019 roku, a do tego projektu pierwotnie zaprosiłem go do zrobienia pierwszych zdjęć, ale po udanej pracy zespołowej został pełnowymiarowym członkiem ekipy.

Aleks Rydzkowska jest artystką wizualną i techniczną pracującą na arenie międzynarodowej w obszarze mediów i nowych technologii sztuki, specjalizującą się w filmie dokumentalnym i eksperymentalnym. W ramach swoich badań na Royal Holloway University of London, bada immersyjne i interaktywne narracje oraz perspektywy etycznych mediów wizualnych w służbie zmian społecznych.

Kevin Ruppaner jest moim przyjacielem z dzieciństwa. Jako, że bycie studentem zazwyczaj oznacza brak wystarczających dochodów, by pozwolić sobie na profesjonalnego aktora do głównej roli, zdecydowałem się wybrać właśnie jego, ponieważ historia jest inspirowana jego życiem. I DUŻO WIĘCEJ!!!

Ilość osób pracujących przy tym projekcie wzrosła gwałtownie. Dużo osób poświęca swój czas i energię, abyśmy mogli stworzyć jak najlepszy film!

Cały projekt jest niskobudżetowy, dużo wysiłku wkładamy w zrobienie tego tak profesjonalnie, jak to tylko możliwe we własnym zakresie, ze sprzętem, który posiadamy.

Niebawem nastąpi ostatni szlif! Moja praca dyplomowa musi być skończona do 14 września, więc pracuję nad nią każdego dnia bez przerwy i jestem pewien, że uda nam się w terminie!

One risk is the time, cause it's passing and the actors need to be available one needed days! Another risk is the animation, as it's hard work which is creating a lot of back-ache, therefore from time to time a break from it is needed
